Ono Bwino can exclusively report that there was panic at Luzira Upper Prison Maximum among the prisons officers after they found Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier Captain Denis Oola Oyaa in possession of a satellite phone.
Highly placed sources revealed to Ono Bwino that a few weeks back, prisons top leadership received an intelligence report that Oola had a phone and was secretly using it at night.
An abrupted search operation was arranged of the entire prison and a phone was recovered from Oola’s room. He was put to task to explain who he used to smuggle the phone into prison.
“The guy is a true soldier; he has a lot of confidence because when he was asked how he smuggled the phone inside the prison, he responded by telling the officers that they are also responsible for the crime because if indeed they found him with the said phone as they claimed, they will also be held responsible,” a source disclosed.

He added that in prison, he is not allowed to openly associate with other inmates and his visitors including lawyers go through a tough search to access him.
He noted that his room is always searched and whenever he moves out of prison, he undergoes a tough search. He then wondered how the phone was smuggled into his room without their detection.
Sources said that investigations on how the phone was smuggled into the prisons is still ongoing and Oola is currently detained in prisons cell.
Frank Baine the prisons spokesperson said that Oola’s phone scandal is not special revealing that on several occasions, they have recovered phones from prisoners which are smuggled in through their visitors.
He added that he has not yet been briefed on Oola’s phone scandal by Upper prison leadership.
Oola is a serving UPDF officer attached to the Armoured Brigade and State alleges that he connived with opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye and his political assistant Hajji Obeid Lutale to assassinate president Museveni and illegally overthrow his government.
