Maj Jimmy Omara the spokesperson of the Special Forces Command (SFC) has denied allegations that their commandos led the operation that resulted into the kidnapping of Edward Ssebuufu (Eddy Mutwe) the chief bodyguard to National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine).
He explained that SFC has never been involved in such an operation and warned the public to be very careful in dealing with information involving politicians, noting that a number of them will malign security agencies with the aim of getting political capital and winning upcoming elections.
Maj Omara joined police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke who also denied police’s involvement in the kidnapping of Mutwe on Sunday at Bukerere village, Kiwanga in Mukono district.
Bobi Wine and other NUP leaders confirmed that Mutwe was kidnapped by violent men armed with guns traveling in the famous deadly Toyota Hiace vehicle commonly known as Drone.
Multiple security sources confirmed to this website that Mutwe is set to be paraded at Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court where he is going to be charged with offences related to aggravated robbery before he is committed to the High Court for trial.
Sources said that Mutwe will be added to other Bobi Wine’s bodyguards who include: Achilleo Kivumbi, Gadafi Mugumya and Smart Wakabi who were recently kidnapped and charged in Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court and committed to the High Court for trial on aggravated robbery charges.
According to court records, the accused persons on 18th May, 2024 at Manja Village in Kisekka Sub county in Lwengo district used force to steal a Camon 12 phone valued at Shs73,000 and a green sweater from NBS journalist Zainab Namusaazi.
The accused persons denied the allegations and their lawyers led by Samuel Muyizzi are set to file for bail so that they are temporarily released as they await for their full trial.
Muyizzi confirmed that as NUP lawyers, they have been ready since Monday to defend Mutwe at Masaka Chief Magistrate Court because they were informed that he is going to be charged from there.
Joel Ssenyonyi the Leader of Opposition in Parliament wondered why Mutwe was kidnapped violently instead of summoning him to police to explain himself.
He argued that several of their people have always been summoned and they have reported to police because they are law abiding citizens.
He alleges that President Museveni is abusing the country’s criminal justice system to settle his political scores by persecuting his political opponents.
