Ono Bwino can exclusively report that former Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago’s movements and all interactions are being monitored by three highly trained commandos working with one of the security agencies in the country.

Last week, Makindye Chief Magistrate Sarah Anne Basemera charged Lukwago with mistreason of treason and remanded him to Luzira prison where he was welcomed by Murchison Bay Prison top leadership led by Officer in Charge (OC) Herbet Kaheru.

When she was remanding him, the magistrate directed prison’s authorities to make sure that Lukwago is handled with care because of his health condition and it is the reason why he was immediately admitted at the prison’s sickbay where medical doctors always monitor his health condition.

Ono Bwino has learnt that Lukwago is being monitored by two medical doctors who attend to him in shifts and another man who is always dressed in civilian clothes but always monitoring Lukwago’s movements with a keen eye on him and he is always seen recording whatever he sees in his book.

“All the three men are strangers to us here in prison. But their movements and actions show that they are highly trained military men. But the two medical doctors are friendly to Lukwago,” a source said.

He added that Kaheru issued a directive prohibiting other inmates from accessing Lukwago even though the former Lord Mayor has been pleading with him at least to allow controversial fellow lawyer Male Mabirizi to access him to burn the boredom.

He was advised to put his pleas in writing.

Mabirizi only access Lukwago when they both meet at the purchase office where they make orders for goods to be used like saop, sugar, drinks because they are no longer allowed to be brought by visitors.

Sources said that Lukwago is also not comfortable with the ward where he sleeps. He disclosed how he spends sleepless nights scared of sick inmates brought into his word on handcuffs including some who look to be mentally sick who violently shout on top of their voices and disrupt the entire sickbay.

“Lukwago spends the entire day dozing and he looks to be scared of the prison. That’s why he is becoming weaker and he needs his familiar diet to keep strong,” a source said

The prison source further narrated how prison warders and inmates supported him when Lukwago was protesting the decision of the prison leadership to confiscate goods including water melon brought to him by his wife Nalongo when she visited him.

Prison bosses insisted that in prison, there is no special inmate. They insisted that Lukwago has to also make orders via purchase office instead of getting goods from outside the prison.

He is also facing the problem of food which he eats because food outside the prison is not allowed. He was advised to pay for special food in the prison prepared by chairman Sserwambala canteen at A1 on Block B.

“Lukwago is not like Dr Kizza Besigye and Haji Obed Lutale on Block 19 at Upper prison. For them they are allowed to cook for themselves. But the problem is Lukwago is still at the sickbay, he cannot access other inmates to help him organize a trusted cook,” a source said.

Lukwago is expected back to Court on 30th June for the mention of his case the same day his clients Dr Besigye and Lutale are also going back to Criminal Division of the High Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Baguma.

State accuses Lukwago of keeping silent and intentionally refusing to inform State agencies about plans by Dr Besigye, Haji Lutale, UPDF soldier Captain Denis Oola and others at large plans of assassinating President Museveni, poisoning top government officials and overthrowing his government.

All the accused persons including Lukwago denied the charges insisting that they are fabricated political offences.
