Imam Idi Kasozi, a respected Muslim leader has blasted Ugandans who frequently ask religious leaders to come out and comment on the ongoing collapse of Rule of Law in the country noting that those making such demands should know that they are the ones responsible for their religious leaders’ silence.

Kasozi who is also a founding member of the opposition’s Justice Forum (JEEMA) explained that religious leaders decided to abandon Ugandans after realising that they were placing their lives in danger to shield selfish people.

“I hear you demanding that your religious leaders under the Inter Religious Council of Uganda umbrella to come out and condemn the ongoing human rights violation but how many of you openly or secretly financially throw a helping hand to your religious leader in the church or in the mosque,” Kasozi said while appearing on Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s CBS radio.

He noted that religious leaders have been living desperate lives to the extent that some have often even failed to provide basic needs for themselves and their families while the believers are living lavish and luxurious lives of abundance without thinking about them. It was not until President Museveni came to their rescue.

“Now they are on government payroll, driving comfortable cars which Museveni government gives them, he takes care of their medical bills, pays school fees for their children and their lives have totally changed. Now you what such people to abandon someone who has provided all that to them! No way,” Kasozi insisted.

He explained that if people of Uganda want religious leaders to be on their side, they should start providing for them and changing the lives of them individually and their families.

However, he condemned strongly the way former Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago was kidnapped from his Wakaliga home, kept in a basement where it is alleged that he was tortured and later dumped at Kira Division police station where he was picked and taken to Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court and charged with mistreason of treason. He was later remanded to Luzira prison.

He further narrated how he strongly condemned the raiding of the home of the former speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among homes and all the humiliations she was subjected to. He disclosed that such actions were made to lay a foundation for top leaders in the country to be humiliated by a few individuals who think that they are the law of the land and no one can challenge them.

As Kasozi was shielding religious leaders, Muslim titular head and also Buganda Kingdom prince Dr Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu was seeking for a meeting between religious leaders and President Museveni to discuss the emergence issues of impunity and the ‘collapse of the Rule of Law’ in the country.

Kakungulu said that something urgent has to be done otherwise the country is sitting on a time bomb and if a solution is not found now, everyone will test on the dangerous seed that is being sown.

James Tweheyo, a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party assured Ugandans that very soon, the President is going to comment on the matters worrying most Ugandans.

He insisted that the President is still in control of the country and keeping the trust that Ugandans placed in him during the 2026 presidential elections.

He also condemned the way Gen Muhoozi supervised Lukwago kidnap insisting that the right thing to do would have been summoning him.
