The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) National Vice president in charge of Buganda and also the Buikwe South legislator Micheal Lulume Bayiga has confirmed that he is leading negotiations to convince two Democratic Party (DP) legislators to join his party before 2026 general elections.
He boasted that the negotiations are moving on very well and he is very sure that very soon, before the nomination of the contestants vying for parliamentary seats, Mukono South’s Fred Kayondo and Mityana South’s Richard Kizito Lumu will be members of PFF.
“I’m struggling to convince them even though I still have a lot of love for DP but they should accept that our great grandfather’s political party was sold to Museveni by Norbert Mao and Gerald Siranda in exchange for money and political offices. They should join the new force to fight and liberate our country,” Lulume said.
He added that the said legislators are still consulting their people before they take their final decision explaining that he understands the situation they are going through to abandon DP noting that it takes courage to decide like he did for the good of the country.
He revealed that he also took his time to decide on whether to join PFF given that he even went to DP Delegates Conference in Mbarara in June and contested against Mao who is also the minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in president Museveni.
Bayiga competed for the office of DP president general with Mao even though he was still in talks with PFF leadership and negotiations were led by Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.
He disclosed that it took him a lot of time to convince the big delegation he moved with to join PFF adding that he wanted Lumu and Kayondo to also join them because he knows they are established politicians in their areas
Ssemujju also confirmed the ongoing talks with the said legislators noting that their supreme leader Dr Kizza Besigye is guiding all the decisions they are taking as he guided them when entering into a political cooperation agreement with Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transition (ANT).
However, DP leadership has sent an olive branch to the said legislators and others to come and pick nomination papers if they want to retain their positions without applying for the party ticket but they are all still silent on the offer.
Richard Ssebamala the Bukoto Central legislator who was denied the opportunity to contest against Mao in the recent delegates conference is still in United States of America and sources close to him allege that he is meeting DP funders and mobilizing financial support to finances candidates vying for different political offices who are in his camp fighting against Mao.
Sources said that Ssebamala assured them that he is not ready to leave DP but he is going to fight from inside and he is very sure that after 2026 general elections, Mao will officially join NRM and he will remain the one running their party.
