Ono Bwino can exclusively report that former Speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among’s multibillion empire is currently run and managed by one of his elder sons.

Highly placed sources close to Among reveals to Ono Bwino that days after being placed under house arrest, her son who has been staying in United Kingdom travelled back to Uganda to join other immediate family members to take care of his stressed mother.

Among, born in 1973, jumped the ladders in only five years to become one of the richest politicians in the country even though in her family history, there is no trace of generational wealth including in her home district of Bukedea.

Sources said that her son is currently supervising the running of her mother’s Bukedea Comprehensive School, Bukedea Teaching Hospital, Bukedea College of health science, a number of hotels and guest houses around Kampala metropolitan and farms around the country.

This investigative website has further learnt that the son is also in talks with two prominent city law firms to join criminal law giants Caleb Alaka and Evans Ochieng to pursue her mother’s freedom starting with securing a court order directing military to withdraw from her residence especially at Nakasero and for her to be allowed to run her day to today businesses including representing the people of Bukedea district.

The son further wants lawyers to not only defend his mother in Courts of law but to also use their influence and contacts to engage President Museveni or his brother Gen Salim Saleh to secure her freedom without subjecting her to criminal proceedings.

“What I can confirm is that even though they have not yet reach to a conclusion, they have started working, first by engaging Gen Saleh’s henchmen and women to schedule a meeting with their boss to discuss extensively the issues concerning their client,” a source privy to the details of the matter said.

It was reported that in June, Among personally engaged President Museveni and struggled to plead with him to return her freedom and allow her to access her medical doctors but the big man insisted that his decision will be guided by the findings of the ongoing criminal investigations against her.

Samuel Odong Otto the former Aruu county Member of Parliament recently claimed that the arrest and charging of the seven top parliament bosses is a signal that very soon Among is also going to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court.

Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda recently alleged that Among is a feared person in the judiciary and it may be very difficult to win a case against her but sources claim that her lawyers are scared of being convicted that is why they are using Teso cultural institution, religious leaders and politicians to lead her plea before the big men in the country with power.

Samuel Ediau the Amuria county legislator disclosed that Among is under both physical and psychological torture which is placing her life in danger.

He added that the flamboyant Bukedea woman MP is facing a financial crisis because all her bank accounts and mobile money accounts were blocked and are inaccessible.

It should be remembered that in 2024, United States of America, United Kingdom, European union countries, United Arab Emirates and their allies sanctioned Among and her immediate family members over allegations of participating in corruption practices and human rights violations.

Ediau said that in the meeting with a section of legislators from Teso region, Among told them that the military personnels deployed at her resident at Nakasero do not even allow her to do physical exercises in her compound and whenever they see her stepping out of the house, they order her to go back inside the house.

It was because the meeting Among held with Museveni that she was allowed to access her personal doctors at Mulago referral hospital and she was driven under heavy security.

“After the medical checkup, doctors engaged her next of kin who is her son and told her to do whatever they can to make sure that their mother is taken abroad because she needs urgent specialised medical attention,” a source said.

Ediau revealed that Among told them that she is suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and other illness and urgently needs special treatment abroad.

State House sources said that Museveni is closely monitoring Among’s health conditions and it is the reason why her appearance in Courts of law has been extended even though top investigators at one time recommended that she is arraigned in Courts of Law and remanded to prison.

Among is facing criminal investigations over allegations of involving in money laundering, embezzlement, abuse of office, corruption, theft of public money and illegal enrichment.
