Fred Mwesigwa the spokesperson of the Democratic Party (DP) president general Norbert Mao has exclusively confirmed to Ono Bwino that his boss has dropped party secretary general Dr Gerald Siranda as one of the signatories on the party’s bank accounts.

Mao, who is also the Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister in president Museveni’s government made the decision in the party’s top Management meeting last week which was held at the party headquarters along Balintuma Road in Kampala city.

A furious Mao told the meeting which was attended by top DP bosses including Mary Babirye Kabanda the party treasurer, Sarah Adong the head of women league and Herbert Rutagwera the party’s organizing secretary that he has exercised his powers as a party president to remove Siranda from being a signatory to the party bank accounts as he is being investigated on allegations of involving the corruption, bribery and mismanaging the party’s properties.

Ono Bwino has learnt that while Mao instituted a committee to investigate Siranda, other concerned party members also dragged him to the Inspector General of Government (IGG) accusing him of mismanaging the party properties including fraudulently selling the party printing machine to a city businessman without authorisation from other party leaders.

Sources said that Siranda’s colleagues who included Adongo pleaded with Mao to reserve his decision but he only told them that his decision was made in good faith.

He advised Siranda to cooperate with the ongoing investigations against him.

As Mao’s convoy drove to Naguru where his government offices are situated, Adongo advised Siranda to follow him and talk to him privately but his security stopped them from accessing his office because they did not have an appointment.

Insiders revealed to this website that Mao has directed the process of impeaching Siranda to kick-off.

Ono Bwino recently reported that Siranda and Fred Mukasa Mbidde the DP national vice president were also planning to impeach Mao after accusing him of being a hopeless leader who is taking the party nowhere.

Mao, Siranda, Mbidde fight started when the two challenged Mao’s decision to contest for the position of the speaker of parliament.

The duo endorsed Annet Anita Among who was dropped by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) top leadership and replaced with Jacob Oboth-Oboth.
