There was panic and making apologies as Annet Anita Among the Speaker of parliament and also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) second national chairperson in charge of women grilled Kawempe district party leaders over the small number of people who attend their party presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni’s rally at Owambogo playground.

As her practice is, after addressing the masses and inviting the first national party vice chairperson Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo to also address the people and invite the chairperson to campaign for himself, Among rushed to another planned rally venue to welcome the candidate but was shocked with what she found at Kawempe because people were few in number with the playground half full.

Immediately Among summoned Hajat Madinah Nsereko the NRM chairperson and other party leaders including Farida Nambi and asked them why the playground was not full.

He warned them that what they did was unacceptable because it was going to embarrass their party candidate.

They defended themselves that they did not have enough money to mobilize the masses to attend the President’s rally and accused the party secretariate of refusing to release cash for proper planning.

Among summoned them to her car and gave them huge stashes of money with strict directives to go and mobilise people to the President’s rally.

They contacted local chairperson who mobilized people from the surrounding areas of; Bwaise, Mulago, Makerere, Wandegeya, Kyebando who were given between Shs10,000 to Shs20,000 each before they entered the car to go and attend the President rally.

As other local NRM leaders were mobilizing the masses to attend the president’s campaign rally, Among was busy collecting the issues affecting the area and personally engaging the youths who pleaded with her to tell the President to direct Mulago hospital leaders to vacate their Mulago ‘ku kattaka’ playground which she promised to deliver and indeed she delivered their query to the President.

She also raised the issue of little funds released by the government to fight poverty among the masses yet even the little funds are being mismanaged by the local leaders.

She pleaded with the big man to raise the amount of money allocated to people of Kawempe.

However, NRM leaders defended themselves that they failed to mobilize the masses because they didn’t receive money from the party secretariate yet Kawempe is an opposition stronghold especially Owambogo where the incumbent Kawempe North legislator Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi commands a lot of support
