As Uganda Law Society vice president Anthony Asiimwe and other lawyers are fighting to save their president senior counsel Isaac Ssemakadde to secure his freedom, another complaint against him has been resurrected at the Criminal Division of the High Court.
Highly placed sources at the Criminal Division of the High Court told this website that the criminal file against Ssemakadde is before Justice David Matovu the head of the Division and very soon he is going to issue summons against him to defend himself.
The criminal file before the Criminal Division of the High Court resulted from a complaint filed by Justice Musa Ssekaana of the Court of Appeal who accused Ssemakadde of cyber harassment and he was charged with computer misuse before the Standards, Utilities and Wildlife Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Ssemakadde protested against being charged before the Standards, Utilities and Wildlife insisting that it lacks the jurisdiction of presiding over computer misuse charges. The matter was referred to the High Court for guidance.
The head of the Standard, Utilities and Wildlife magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu was not happy with the decision from the presiding magistrate the late Marione Magenyi of refering the matter to the High Court without her guidance.
Kamasanyu insisted that her Court has jurisdiction to entertain matters of computer misuse.
Justice Ssekaana accused Ssemakadde of misusing a computer and harassing him by using vulgar language including blasting him for allegedly having a small penis.
Sources at the Criminal Division of the High Court told this website that Justice Matovu wants to pronounce himself on the matter before the end of September 2025
The development comes at a time when Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi has just fixed 18th of September to hear Ssemakadde’s application seeking to stay the hearing of the private criminal prosecution charges slapped on him by two lawyers, Jushua Byamazima and Tony Tumukunde citing constitutional violation.
Ssemakadde’s application resulted from a Constitutional petition filed at the Constitutional Court which is seeking for a Court declaration that charging Ssemakadde with offences related to intent to insult the modesty of Justice Jane Frances Abodo is unconstitutional.
Ssemakadde ran into exile after Justice Ssekaana convicted him on contempt of court charges and sentenced him to serve two years in prison which is also being challenged before the Court of Appeal.
