This investigative website can exclusively report that Mathius Mpuuga Nsamba the president of the Democratic Front (DF) is set to support Muhammad Nsereko the Kampala Central Division Member of Parliament’s Presidential bid come 2026.
Highly placed sources in DF have revealed that even though the final decision has not yet been taken, the ongoing talks between DF and Nsereko’s Ecological Party which will result in signing the cooperation agreement which will guide them to work together in 2026 general election and front Nsereko as the joint presidential candidate.
“Nsereko has already declared his interest to contest for the position of president using his Ecological Party as a vehicle and our president is not too much interested in running for presidency because his goal right now is to build a strong political party which will put up strong competition during the political transition from Museveni to another generational leader which is likely to take place in 2031,” a source said.
He added that a section of DF leaders think that instead of dividing their little resources, they should pull them together and support one candidate for the position president and divide the other elective offices among their respective party members so that they can put up strong competition against other political parties and independents.
Ono Bwino has establish that Mpuuga is going to put much of his energy into reclaiming greater Masaka and make sure that DF wins a number of positions from Members of Parliament to district chairpersons and councillors and it is the reason his first ever Delegates Conference was held in Masaka and Nsereko was the special guest.
Sources said that apart from competing for the position of president, Nsereko will also be supervising Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono to make sure that their allies perform well in Kampala Central where they are planning to front Moses Kasibante the former Lubaga North legislator against National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and others from other parties.
Other candidates who DF is set to front include; Henry Lubowa in Nansana Municipality and Samuel Lubega Mukaku in Lubaga South. They are also planning to support Forum for Democratic Change’s Moses Okwera in Nakawa East to defeat NUP’s deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro.
However, other sources said that Mpuuga decided not to compete against Nsereko for presidency but cooperate with him because he is very sensitive on risking his legislative job which heavily pays him a monthly salary. Yet he knows that he won’t win even though he contest for President but will only get bragging rights which don’t pay.
Mpuuga, Nsereko cooperation comes at a time when People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has just signed a cooperation agreement with the Alliance for National Transition (ANT) to work together in the coming general elections.
NUP and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) are also expected to have a cooperation arrangement in the said election but chances are little that they will join Mpuuga, Nsereko, ANT and PFF cooperation and sources assured this website that they will front candidates against their candidates.
Micheal Mabikke the DF Secretary General however insists that their party leadership will reach out to all opposition leaders to cooperate with them in the coming general election because at the moment, there is no strong opposition party that can single handedly defeat Museveni and his NRM party.
