Ono Bwino can exclusively report that President Museveni has forwarded the name of outgoing Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament (MP) Theodora Ssekikubo to his intelligence team for vetting as he makes the last touches on his coming cabinet.
On Monday, Museveni praised his outgoing cabinet for the good work they did noting that it was because of them that he scored 71% in the 2026 presidential elections even though some small mistakes were made which cost him a higher percentage.
Museveni used their last meeting to ask them to join him in fighting corruption and poverty in the coming government.
Museveni is expected to take oath on 12th May, 2026 at Kololo independence grounds and a number of local and international guests have been invited including heads of states.
Highly placed sources told Ono Bwino that the President is prepared to announce his new cabinet days after the MPs have been sworn in and he is currently only making emergence changes and Ssekikubo is one of the emergencies that the big man handled.
Sources divulged that Ssekikubo is either going to be appointed as a state minister in charge of public service or labour.
Ssekikubo claimed that his defeat was fueled by military leaders who were supporting his opponent retired Brig Gen Emmanuel Rwashande.
“Ssekikubo’s appointment is not for himself but the president wants to thank the Orthodox church in Uganda for their support. He was the only potential candidate fit to be appointed a minister because of his family background with president’s liberation struggle and it is the reason the President looks at him as his son,” a State House source said.
In 2021 and 2022 after the death of Jacob Oulanyah, Ssekikubo contested for the position of the deputy Speaker of parliament but he was among those dropped by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) top organ the Central Executive Committee after they recommended Annet Anita Among and Thomas Tayebwa.
Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju recently said that even though Ssekikubo looks to be controversial and challenges Museveni’s projects in parliament, he has been helping him to execute a number of clandestine deals in parliament.
The Orthodox church leadership were devastated by the death of Kalangala district woman MP Helen Nalkimuli who was their only burning candle in government.
