Seasoned conservative politicians led by former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) deputy secretary general Harold Kaija have warned National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) to be careful when getting emotional over the alleged deletion of Buganda from Uganda map.
Speaking to Muslims and other party leaders and supporters at his party headquarters at Makerere Kavule a Kampala suburb, Bobi Wine assured Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s subjects that it was intentional for president Museveni’s government to erase Buganda from the map of Uganda.
A map that is currently circulating online does not include Buganda as a religion even though other ethnic tribes are represented in their respective regions. Instead, the area that was occupied by Buganda on previous maps is represented as North and South central regions of Uganda.
Bobi Wine explained that the action is one of the mechanisms employed by Museveni’s government to weaken Buganda and Baganda while making sure that they end up without a place they call home.
Bobi Wine added that the move is very wide and also includes grabbing of land in Buganda forcefully.
He was supported by his national deputy president in charge of Buganda and also the Butambala county legislator Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi who accused president Museveni of not wishing Baganda well that is why he decided not to pay the billions of monies in rent arrears that Buganda Kingdom establishment is demanding from government for using their buildings and land.
He added that many Baganda including Kabaka Mutebi fought on president Museveni’s side during the 1981 liberation war after he convinced them that once he takes power, he was going to return their Kingdom, their properties and give them federal system of government.
He disclosed that Museveni declined to do as he promised yet other people who participated in the fight have already received what they were promised.
However, Kaija revealed that it is a political tool employed by members of the Deep State to start spreading information that Buganda is being erased from Uganda map with the aim of misleading Buganda politicians.
“Like the Prime Minister of Buganda Owekitiibwa Charlse Peter Mayiga advised Baganda, they should not be scared by allegations that Buganda has been erased from the map of Uganda. All of us politicians should take the advice because these people want to use this allegation as a political weapon in the general election of 2026. Bobi Wine will be isolated when he goes to Acholi, West Nile or Ankole to mobilize support for the presidency, people will be asking him why he is in their area when he was seen fighting for his native Baganda not Uganda” Kaija said.
Mayiga said that no one can erase Buganda from the Map of Uganda unless they lift the entire region and throw it away in Tanzania and get another region and replace Buganda.
He explained that Buganda is a strong pillar on which Uganda stands and without Buganda, Uganda cannot stand.
On this background, he advised Baganda not to fall for such traps.
He added that this is not the first time that such allegations are being spread in Buganda and one time.
The first time that these allegations arose, Kabaka Mutebi came out with a strong warning which forced the concerned government officials who made the mistake to apologize.
Emmanuel Lumala Dombo the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Director for Information and Communications rubbished the allegation that Buganda was being erased from the national map adding that those behind it only wanted to mislead the public.
“Really how can you erase Buganda from the map of Uganda! Look, for us in the NRM we have our national vice chairperson in charge of Buganda Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi and not central region so, people should not allow to be misled by this rumour,” Dombo said.
