Defeated Butambala district woman Member of Parliament who also doubles as the deputy Secretary General of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Hajat Aisha Nalule Kabanda had narrated how she is struggling to convince elders in the district that their outgoing legislator Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi is facing fabricated politically influenced criminal charges and his other co-accused persons.
She said that she was shocked when interacting with the area elders on Muwanga’s troubles when they responded by telling her that they are scared and are wandering how panga wilding criminal gangs reached their district.
“I thank some media houses which helped us to give an elaborative investigative report by getting testimonies from eye witnesses and family members of people who lost their relatives. Maybe that will exonerate honourable Muwanga and those young boys in the public eye because one of the elders I talked to, whom I highly respect insisted on how pang wilding criminals invaded our district which shocked me,” Kabanda said
She revealed that people are still in hiding and are scared to come to court and stand in solidarity with their comrades because they fear they may be added on the criminal file and be prosecuted because the State Prosecutor told court that there are people still at large who have to be added on the said file.
In an exclusive interview with Ono Bwino, Fred Mwesigwa the personal spokesperson of the Minister of Justice and Constitutional affairs Norbert Mao advised Kivumbi and his co-accused persons to take the route of negotiating with President Museveni to have them released from prison otherwise they will end up like opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye.
“I see powerful lawyers in the media boasting of how they are going to save them but surely they will not. That case is political and cannot be solved by law as they think,” Mwesigwa said.
Ono Bwino reported that Kivumbi declined the proposal of negotiating his release after his wife Dr Zahara Nampeewo a Makerere university law don proposed to have a meeting with President Museveni and explain to him what really happened on that day when the shocking incident where more than 7 people were killed, a number arrested and others survived with injuries.
Museveni claimed that Kivumbi recruited criminal gangs from different parts of the country with plans to use them to hack people with pangas once the Electoral Commission declares that they have been defeated.
However, Kabanda insists that security attacked Kivumbi’s home in Butambala and intentionally shot and killed people they found there and others who were inside the house with Kivumbi’s declarations forms.
The electoral commission declared Erias Mukiibi brother to permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance Ramathan Ggoobi as the newly elected Butambala Member of Parliament even though NUP leadership insist that their candidate Kivumbi was cheated.
