Friends and a section of family members of the late Rev Fr Victoria Muvunyi are demanding that the postmortem report of the deceased be made public to clear the suspicion that he died of poisoning.

34-year-old Muvunyi was laid to rest at Kisubi minor Seminary on Tuesday after being found dead in the official house of Bishop Dr Paul Ssemogerere at Lubaga in Lubaga Division a Kampala suburb.

According to Highly placed sources in the Catholic church, since February 2026, Muvunyi has been struggling with the strange illness which resulted from stomach complications.

Sources added that Muvunyi applied for a sick leave from his bosses at Alokulum National Major Seminary in Gulu district and it was granted to him.

He added that Dr Ssemogerere being the mentor of the deceased, he helped him secure the sick leave to travel back to Kampala to receive proper medication.

Shockingly, sources disclosed that Kavunyi was found dead in the same bedroom where former Kampala Archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga also died from.

Ono Bwino has learnt that Muvunyi was handpicked by the Uganda Episcopal Conference bosses and taken to Alokulum National Major Seminary to serve the Catholic church and he was a clerical formator, Greek, logic and sacred scripture teacher.

At the burial, Dr Ssemogerere confirmed to mourners that Muvunyi has been receiving proper treatment and was responding to his medication and on the fateful day, he was going to preside over church services at Nsambya sharing.

One of the deceased’s friends claimed that by the time he started complaining of stomach complications, he was struggling with internal fights with fellow priests.

“He was always receiving threats to his life and that is one of the reasons why he decided to apply for leave to travel to Rome for further studies,” a source said.

He added that Church leaders in Kampala established that the deceased was suffering from a dangerous disease and at the time of his death, they were working on paperwork for him to travel abroad for further medical attention.

Born in 1992, Muvunyi was ordained as a priest in 2022 in a ceremony presided over by Dr. Ssemogerere.

He was first deployed at Naguru parish and Mitala Maria before he was taken to Alokulum where his troubles started from.

Family and friends failed to understand Muvunyi’s cause of death at his burial. They were told that it was only Dr Ssemogerere who was authorized to reveal the deceased’s postmortem as it has been a practice for a longtime.

“I remember a top Reverend Father who lost her sister who was a nun serving the church, during her burial, he declared that was going to use all his energy and influence to establish her sister’s surprise death. The next two days, he was sent to Roma for further studies,” a source said.
