Emmanuel Matovu Magoola the Busiro East Member of Parliament (MP) froze on phone when National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) gave him tough conditions if he is to back his candidature.
Immediately after Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama the chairperson of the Electoral Commission denominated NUP flag bearer for Busiro East Mathias Mulumba Walukagga on grounds of lacking the minimum academic qualification, Magoola was advised by the party top leadership through David Lewis Rubongoya his personal friend to personally talk to Bobi Wine who was out of town campaigning.
According to highly placed sources close to Bobi Wine, through a Phone Call, Bobi Wine told Magoola that as per now, the party has taken a decision to proceed to the High Court to challenge Justice Byabakama’s decision.
Bobi Wine advised Magoola to wait until the declaration from Court concerning Walukagga’s demise.
“Magoola was very sure that Bobi Wine was going to endorse him because he has heavily invested in the party, before the presidential campaigns kicked off, he facilitated Bobi Wine with Shs200m, he facilitated the renovation of the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule and helped children of the political prisoners,” a source said.
He added that on the day the party announced its flag bearers for the position of the MP, Magoola was in Eastern Uganda campaigning with Bobi Wine and nearly jumped out of his hotel room naked after he was told that he was missing from the list and the flag was given to Walukagga
Sources said that he immediately engaged Rubongoya who had earlier assured him of the flag and told him that Walukagga was given the flag because he was very strong on the ground and had Bobi Wine’s support.
However, he advised him to stay in the race (as an independent) because chances are high that Walukagga’s candidature is likely to be challenged on grounds of lacking academic qualifications.
It is the reason he was nominated with a chair as his symbol.
Sources said that even though Bobi Wine is pushing Walukagga to proceed to the High Court, chances are high that his petition is likely to be academic and, on this ground, last Friday, Magoola officially launched his campaigns as he continues to engage Bobi Wine to support him.
Magoola insists that he is better than Medard Lubega Ssegona the incumbent.
Ono Bwino can exclusively report that talks have started to compromises Walukagga to support Magoola but the condition is he has to cough some money to compensate Walukagga who claims he has invested a lot and was very sure of going to parliament.
“Apart from campaigning posters, Walukagga has heavily invested in himself to fit in that life of an honourable, he has been driving powerful cars. One time he found me at an ATM bank machine going to withdraw some money, he stopped me and asked me how much I was going to withdraw. He matched to the machine, withdrew the money handed it to me and promised me more once he enters parliamentary building. He thanked me for helping him. We have lost a good leader,” one of Walukagga’s friends who is a radio presenter told this website.
Sources said that Magoola is ready to spend to have Walukagga on his side because he is very sure that he has more support than Ssegona who is banking on his political experience and contacts both in security and in the government.
