This investigative website can exclusively report that incarcerated Butambala county legislator Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi is very scared after learning that his political comrades Betty Nambooze of Mukono Municipality and Joseph Ssewungu of Kalungu West are lobbying to replace him as the National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy president in charge of Buganda.

Kivumbi who is currently imprisoned at Kitalya government prison on charges related to terrorism received classified information from his henchmen at NUP headquarters that Nambooze and Ssewungu are separately and clandestinely lobbying individuals who can influence the party principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) to buy the idea of appointing someone to hold Kivumbi’s office until his troubles are settled by Court.

“Their argument can hold water because they are saying that Buganda being a strong NUP block, cannot be vacant without a leader to help the president mobilize political support especially when the party is expecting some by-elections based on the several election petitions filed in different High Courts,” a source said.

He added that what makes matters worse is the absence of Bobi Wine who is still on the run.

Their supporters in Buganda are currently like orphans and they need a guardian to help them counter President Museveni and his party the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Lobbyists for both legislators have told those currently in power in NUP that the country doesn’t know when Kivumbi’s trial will be concluded at the High Court because all signs all signs show that investigations into the matter is not yet complete even though the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) needs only six months to commit the accused persons to the High Court for trial.

After failing to resolve his political misunderstanding which resulted from the controversial service award in 2025, Bobi Wine appointed Kivumbi to replace Mathias Mpuuga as his deputy in Buganda.

Highly placed sources in NUP have revealed that Nambooze and Ssewungu were also lobbying for the said position at that time.

However, Bobi Wine henchmen insist that replacing Kivumbi when he is still in prison is like betraying him.

They added that it will be very difficult for Bobi Wine to buy the proposal because Kivumbi is one of the political prisoners who need to be comforted by standing with him.
