City businessman Hamis Kiggundu has gifted the newly elected Kampala Central Member of Parliament who also doubles as the Kampala city senior minister Hajat Minsa Kabanda and Kampala Central Division mayor Salim Uhuru with a Hajj pilgrimage travel to Saudi Arabia to celebrate their political victories.
Ono Bwino has established that both politicians travelled out of the country two weeks back and they are expected back this week.
“It is not new, Hajji Kiggundu has been giving Hajj travels to his friends especially when they achieve something which makes him happy. He contributed a lot to their victories, so as a way of thanking Allah for what he did for them, he decided to take them to Mecca as a way of thanking him,” a source said.
He added that this is the reason why they were not seen physically during the execution of the minister’s order of evicting poor city vendors out of Kampala streets.
This website has established that Kiggundu not only facilitated minister Kabanda and Uhuru’s political campaigns, but he also supported other politicians including those in the opposition.
“He has been troubled by the outgoing Kampala city leadership especially Erias Lukwago who has been fighting his style of developing the city but with the new Lord mayor Ssalongo Ronald Balimwezo, the signs are on the wall that they will cooperate well because he even funded his campaigns also,” a source said.
All minister Kabanda’s known phone numbers were switched off but those of Uhuru went unanswered as this reporter struggled to get their comment on the matter.
Minister Kabanda defeated National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya while Uhuru also defeated NUP Moses Katabu
