Police has issued a warrant of arrest on Florence Muduwa 32, social worker and resident of Kawuku, a suburb of Kampala. Muduwa, who has been on the run since September 15, 2024 is wanted on charges of promoting homosexuality, an act that was outlawed in the country.

The mother of three year old son was found red handed engaging in sexual activities with the late Priscilla Ahereza who was a resident of Kisaasi on the outskirts of Kampala. The duo broke article 48 of the penal code and this case was reported at Kisubi Police Station on File no; SD REF: 97/19/09/2024.

A highly placed officer that chose not to be revealed to speak freely on this case says, Muduwa’s husband caught her red handed with Ahereza, having sex on the couple’s matrimonial bed. The two were nude inside the master bedroom on September 15, 2024 which was Ahereza’s birthday.

“From our investigations, we discovered that Muduwa and Ahereza had been engaging in sex for over four years,” he says. On that fateful day, they ran out of luck when Muduwa’s husband who had left home for work, returned without prior notice and was shocked to land on them. The couple lived in a three bedroom fenced house in Kawuku.

Muduwa’s husband a one Emmanuel Magomu narrates that they had been together for close to five years and they have a three years old son.

He says; “Mine was love at first sight. I fell deeply in love when I set my eyes on my wife. Her kindness and cool persona attracted me.” “But she started to resent me before our first anniversary.” Magomu kept hoping things would change in vain.

“I did all that was with in my means to please Florence but the more I tried, the colder she got towards me,” he says.

The marriage became turbulent as Muduwa refused to fulfill her conjugal rights. She also refused to give birth to more children, became so demanding and would cut off communication. He suspected she was cheating because to him, those were all red flags but because Magomu loved her, he persevered.

“I am a truck driver, always on the road,” he says. He picks goods from either Mombasa or Dare Salam ports before delivering them to Kampala, Rwanda, Congo and South Sudan.  Because of the nature of his work, he is always away for three to four weeks.  Magomu had stopped his wife from working to be at home and take care of their child. She previously worked as Clients Relations Officer (CRO) with Wefunile Driving School in Kampala.

“I provided for my family and ensured they did not lack.  But instead, my wife became nagging, always complaining and accusing me of philandering,” he shares.

Little did he know that Muduwa was covering up her escapades with Priscilla whom she met while at campus. The two were good friends and their families knew it but Magomu says Priscilla was bad influence. They would go on trips for days, leaving her son with neighbors. And whenever Muduwa’s husband complained, she would lash at him blaming him for being an absentee husband. And that she felt lonely and Priscilla was helping to fill the void.

“My wife had no interest in sex. I would literally beg and plead to sleep with her,” he says adding that; “Even the few days I was at home, she would neglect me and be on phone. I smelt a rat and devised a plan to trap them.”

Meanwhile on that day, Magomu says, he learnt it was Priscilla’s birthday and Muduwa had organized a house party for her. Muduwa had dropped off her daughter at his grandmother’s home so the two had the house to themselves. They left the gate and main doors unlocked, that’s how Muduwa’s husband managed to land on them.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes. I almost blacked out seeing my wife enjoying sex with a fellow woman. It is despicable,” he says. Out of rage, he pounced on them while yelling hence attracting neighbors who turned into a lynch mob.

The police officer says; “We received a panic call from a lady asking us to hurry up and rescue two women who were about to be lynched by a mob.”  By the time police reached, Muduwa had managed to escape but Ahereza was lying down and bleeding from the deep wounds on her head. She had been hit using a log. The mob wanted to finish her off saying homosexuals deserve nothing but death and that leaving them alive was risky because they would spoil their children.

“We rushed Ahereza to Mulago national referral hospital and contacted her relatives. We later learnt that she passed on two days later,” he says.

The officer adds that the relatives accused Muduwa of introducing their daughter to homosexuality hence causing her death. The deceased’s aunt, Judith Atuhaire opened a case, reason police is hunting for Muduwa to answer to the charges as they prepare to escalate the matter to court.

Illegal act

Homosexuality is illegal and remains an offence in Uganda since independence and was sealed by the 1995 constitution. President Yoweri Museveni assented to the Anti-Homosexuality Act in May 2023. It imposes death penalty, life imprisonment or up to 20 years in prison for recruitment, promotion and funding of same-sex activities. Anyone convicted of attempted aggravated homosexuality faces a 14-year sentence. Museveni described gay people as deviations from normal.
