Ono Bwino online can exclusively report that members of the security and intelligence services and forces are panicking after losing former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) movements on their radars.
Highly placed security sources told Ono Bwino hat Bobi Wine sneaked out of his Magere home hours after casting his vote on 15th of January 2026 and hid in one of the friend’s buildings around Kampala metropolitan.
Because he was on the intelligence radar and his movements were closely monitored, a decision was taken not to arrest him because arresting him before the announcements of the presidential elections was going damage the country’s image locally and internationally.
Sources said that there was a plan to arrest Bobi Wine so that he answers to allegations that he was planning a surprise riot in different parts of the country especially Buganda which were fused at the last hour before the election date.
In his first address after being declared the winner, President Museveni confirmed that Bobi Wine was planning a surprise attack. He boasted that for them as people of Ankole, they don’t believe in surprise attacks, they believe in someone declaring a war in the open so that a fight kicks off once both parties are prepared for it.
He narrated how he spent the entire night before the election date talking to Bobi Wine’s boys who were going to execute the surprise attack similar to what was done in Tanzania during the 2025 elections where more than 2000 people were killed as State fought to save President Saluhu Hassan’s victory.
Sources said that because of that plan, it is the reason why security was ruthless when dealing with NUP supporters in Luwero, Butambala, Mukono and Wakiso where a number were killed, arrested and injured.
Sources said that the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who was supervised the monitoring Bobi Wine’s movements was shocked by how they lost him when they immediately raided the said building where he was hiding and he was not there
Because of the panic, they decided to raid his home and his wife Barbie Itungo was placed under siege to reveal the whereabouts of her husband.
Even though Muhoozi through his X handle boasted how she was very cooperative and told them where the principal was hiding, Barbie denied the allegation and assured Bobi Wine that she did not reveal anything to them.
A search was carried out at Bobi Wine’s ancestral home in Gomba district and at his Busabala beach but nothing was discovered. They decided to place a roadblock on Entebbe International Airport and searched all motor vehicles except those of the diplomats.
Sources said that out of the confusion, it is the reason why Gen Muhoozi accused the United States of America embassy in Kampala of having a hand in Bobi Wine’s escape. However minutes afater the post, the CDF deleted the post and apologised to the American government and its people explaining that he was misled.
Harriet Chemutai, the NUP’s chairperson of the Elections Management Committee said that after receiving frequent messages from strange phone numbers asking him to cooperate with them and talk to Gen Muhoozi, her home in Eastern Uganda was raided by security and she was placed on the wall to reveal the whereabouts of Bobi Wine.
He was forced to escort security from her Kapchorwa home to Mbale as the search for Bobi Wine continued.
Preliminary investigations show according to security sources that Bobi Wine sneaked out of the country days after the elections through the porous borders on Uganda, Rwanda boundary.
“Previously, Kenya has been the second home for many opposition leaders here but since the arrest of Dr Besigye. They are scared of going there and Bobi Wine being a celebrity, we think he used porous routes on the Uganda/Rwanda border,” a senior operative told Ono Bwino.
He added that their intelligence is establishing that Bobi Wine is in South Africa with his confidants including his Personal Assistant Ashraf Najja who first sneaked out of the country before the elections.
Bobi Wine is not the first opposition leader to sneak out of the country leaving security in confusion, after the 2001 elections, Dr Besigye also did the some and first camped in South African before proceeding to the United States of America.
Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) Command Jamil Mukulu Kyagulanyi also did the some in the 1990’s but he was arrested in 2015 in Tanzania and he is currently facing Terrorism and murder charges before the Crimes War Division of the High Court.
Maverick political scientist and also the former Aruu county member of parliament Samuel Odonga Otto pleaded with security and President Museveni to personally to engage Bobi Wine noting that being on run is placing the country on the time bomb because the enemies can use him to put the country down.
