Ono Bwino can exclusively report that among the names already vetted for a ministerial job in President Museveni’s coming cabinet is Princess Hellen Namutamba.
Namutamba who is currently serving as the minister in charge of tourism and heritage in the Busoga Kingdom has been lobbying for a ministerial job through her god mother Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga the former First deputy Prime Minister and also the Minister for East African Community Affairs and President Museveni’s younger brother Gen Salim Saleh.
Namutamba is a known blue-eyed girl to Kadaga and on several occasions she has been cited escorting her when she is going for private sensitive meeting with both President Museveni or Gen Saleh.
Insiders told Ono Bwino that since 2024, Namutamba who was one of the powerful people in parliament during the last years of Kadaga as a speaker of parliament has been lobbying for a ministerial job until her name hit Museveni’s cabinet list which he forwarded to his security for vetting.
Sources said that Namutamba is set to be either deployed in the Ministry of Tourism or ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Development.
Sources divulged that Namutamba has been executing Gen Saleh and Kadaga’s special assignments especially where their interests are being threatened. She was also a very instrumental decision maker in Justice Catherine Bamugemereire’s land probe.
In Bamugemereire’s commission, she was in company the now chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission Justice Dr. Douglas Singiza and Loyola Karobwa who was deployed at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development as the Senior Legal Officer.
In 2020, she was detained at Kira police division for days on charges related to annoying the person of Anita Annet Among the current Speaker of parliament but she was released on police bond.
State House sources revealed to Ono Bwino that Museveni is set to announce his new cabinet in the coming two weeks.
Currently, government ministries are being run by technocrats and not ministers even though they are allowed to access their offices.
