Gorreth Namugga the Mawogola South Member of Parliament has asked Justice Simon Mugenyi Byamukama the chairperson of the Electoral Commission to assign another team to provide security to National Unity Platform (NUP) party presidential candidate claiming that the currently Special Forces Command (SFC) Commandos have been exhausted by his campaigning style.

She claims that Bobi Wine’s security bodyguards are exhausted and they have established that they are not physically fit that is why on several occasion, they struggle to much him especially when dealing with security personals who try to frustrate his presidential campaigns.

“When he was campaigning in Buikwe district, Bobi Wine’s cars drove a long distance without seeing the patrol car which transports the security personnel given to him by Justice Byabakama. I was told that one of their colleagues jumped onto a car to save his legs as the other squeezed their car to stop Bobi Wine supporters from moving with him. This is not the first time seeing those people struggling with protecting our president, I think we were given old people who are not physically fit and they should give us another security team,” Namugga said.

Electoral Commission said that each presidential candidate was given 10 bodyguards to provide security at his campaign rallies and at his home. EC said that all the security personnel are physically fit for the job.

In the 2020 presidential campaigns, Bobi Wine bodyguards from security experienced sharp body injuries as they struggled to save their principal from being injured by their security colleagues who were fighting to stop his processions.

The development comes at a time when Bobi Wine’s entire civilian security team including their commander Edward Ssebuufu(Eddy Mutwe) are rotting away in the prison after they were arrested and charged with aggravated cases.

At the start of these campaigns, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba confirmed that it is the SFC Commandos who are going to provide security to presidential candidates.

He declared a ban on civilian bodyguards controlling security of candidates.
