Vincent Mubiru Njuuki, a fearless social media and mainstream media critic of the leadership of Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the Kabaka of Buganda has died after a short illness
On Wednesday, Njuuki was buried at his ancestral home in Mityana district and the ceremony was attended by Buganda Kingdom clan prime ministers led by Nkunyingi Naserenga of Ffumbe clan who narrated to the mourners how they tried to save the deceased’s life.
Mubiru who has been a close and trusted friend to Yusuf Walusimbi Mbirozankya the clan head of Ffumbe, was attacked by strange disease two weeks back which weakened him.
He was rushed to a medical facility in Mulago for medication
According to Nkunyingi Naserenga the Ffumbe clan prime minister, Njuuki was forced to go to hospital after realising that health condition was worsening even though he was protesting that he would be okay.
According to Nkunyingi, when the deceases was treated, his situation improved and he was discharged.
However, after spending two days at his Wakaliga home, the situation worsened again and he was rushed to another medical centre in Natete Lubaga Division where he was treated for days and decision was taken by his family to take him back to the village since he was improving.
Two days later, according to Nkunyingi, they received a strange phone call announcing Njuuki’s death which left them devasted because Njuuki has been very loyal not only to him but also to his boss Mbirozankya.
Njuuki, who was controversial when it came to commenting on Kabaka Mutebi’s leadership style decided to resign from the position of the Bazzukulu ba Buganda International, the umbrella body that brings together all grandchildren of Buganda after declining to make a public apology over the statement he made against the person of Kabaka and his immediate family members.
Njuuki was recently accused of undermining Kabaka Mutebi’s leadership even though his argument was that he was fighting for the independence of Buganda Kingdom clan heads council which he claimed was a strong pillar on which Buganda stands.
He vowed that he cannot look on while Kabaka Mutebi and the people in his administration undermine them.
Njuuki publicly supported the decision of his boss to lead fellow clan heads to meet president Museveni in State House and pleaded with him to buy for them land to develop themselves which the president accepted.
He explained that he supported the move because clan heads are living in pure poverty yet the Kabaka’s government is not helping them.
He alleged that even the piece of land that the Kabaka gave to them was also confiscated and taken by Buganda Land Board who act as Kabaka’s limited company responsible for administering the Kingdom’s land.
Njuuki also condemned Kabaka for refusing to meet clan heads in Namibia where he had been taken to receive medical care. He disclosed that in Kiganda culture, clan heads are like Kabaka’s brothers and without them he cannot perform Kiganda rituals.
Njuuki on several occasions has been confronting Buganda conservatives and they nearly had a physical fight over the controversial statements he made against the person of Kabaka, his family and Buganda premier Charles Peter Mayiga’s administration.
Njuuki has also been a confidant and a close friend to many members of Buganda Kingdom Royal family and has used his social media platforms to raise their grievances.
Sources within Buganda Kingdom clan council revealed that Njuuki was recently warned to be careful with his movements and where he eats especially at their offices which they set up on the land Museveni bought for them which is opposite Bulange the headquarters of Buganda Kingdom.
Because of his short illness which resulted in his death, his friends have started claiming that he might have eaten poison and it was the cause of his death.
