President Museveni’s former Finance, Planning and Economic Development senior minister Maria Nabasirye Kiwanuka who is also a wife to city tycoon Mohan Musisi Kiwanuka has hired a top law firm as the fight over the Oscar industries businessman’s multibillion empire turns blood.
The development resulted from a landmark Court of Appeal Judgement where three justices led by Justice Chebolion Barishaki declared that Mohan Kiwanuka is not in his right mental status to run his multibillion empire. Court directed his elder son Jordan Musisi Ssebuliba to led the process of appointing the new manager to run the empire.
The Court of Appeal orders were executed and the family appointed Ssebuliba to manage his father’s empire.
However Maria, the second wife did not attend the two meetings. Family sources close to her told this website that her life was threatened by other family members including Beatrice Kavuma Kiwanuka the first wife to the tycoon and his children who attended the meeting.

The orders were executed as Maria through Odokel Opolot and Company Advocates filed the Notice of Appeal against Justice Barishaki’s lead judgement to the Supreme Court even though she has not managed to secure the orders of the court stopping the execution of the Court of Appeal Orders.
As the new manager, Ssebuliba started the process of realigning his father’s empire including seeking further court orders directing Maria to reveal to him the books of accounts and other documents showing how she has been running the empire and her children as administrators as directed by the Court of Appeal.
Maria has hired Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA), a leading law firm in the country to challenge Ssebuliba’s move against her husband’s empire.
Maria hired KAA because the Court of Appeal Justices recommended to the Uganda Law Council to pick interest and investigate senior lawyer Francis Buwule of Buwule Mayiga and Company Advocates and establish where he was getting the legal instructions from to represent a mentally sick Kiwanuka insisting that his actions in prosecuting the matter raised a lot of questions which need answers and its only the Law Council that can handle the matter.
As the new lawyers, KAA started with pleading with the Court of Appeal leadership to organize mediations to settle the matter out of court and resolve the misunderstanding in the tycoon’s family so as to save his multibillion empire.
Through June, Mugala the deputy registrar of the Court of Appeal wrote to Ssebuliba and other concerned parties over the arranged mediation.
However, this website has established that Ssebuliba protested the arrangement claiming that Maria wasted her chances of voicing her concerns over the management of her husband’s empire by not attending the meeting which executed the court orders.
He further told his lawyers that the matter at hand is above the Court of Appeal since Maria through her lawyers notified them and Court that she was appealing the decision of the Court of Appeal.
The fresh fight comes at a time when staff working with radio one and other companies owned by the tycoon are scared of the new managers.
They think that they are likely to lose their jobs because Ssebuliba the new manager will kick out all those who have been loyal to Maria.
However, Maria assured staff that she is still in control of her husband’s empire insisting that Ssebuliba is just masquerading as a manager of her husband’s estate through court orders.
