Ono Bwino can exclusively report that every evening, family and friends convene at Mutungo hill where the home of the newly elected Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Lord mayor Ssalongo Ronald Balimwezo is for praying sessions to seek God’s intervention to chase way demons and dangerous spirits which may be threatening their man’s life days to his historical swearing-in ceremony at City Hall
Even though he has been holding private meetings with staff and leaders of the technical wing of KCCA at City Hall, sources close to him disclosed that for the last two weeks, Balimwezo, a trained engineer has been complaining about pain in his legs.
On Monday, the pain worsened and he was helped by his wife and other home helpers to move out of bed and they later called his personal doctors to give him first aid and advise them accordingly.
The sad development comes at a time when preparations for his swearing-in ceremony are in high gear and according to sources, it will take place in the last week of May 2026 together with other elected city lord councilors.
Officially, the City Executive Director Hajat Sharif Buzeki will hand over the Lord mayor office to Balimwezo which the incumbent Ssalongo Erias Lukwago is set to handover to the technical wing on Monday because sources close to him said that he will not attend the official handover.
The councilors at city hall who are fighting for ministerial positions in Balimwezo’s leadership, those who want him to chair juicy committees, those who want him to support them win the office of the speaker and deputy speaker are using his sickness to prove their loyalty to the Busoga College Mwiri Old boy.
When contacted by Ono Bwino from his sickbed, Balimwezo confirmed that he is down but boasted that with the prayers of his family members, friends, supporters and well-wishers, he will be back and strongly serve the people of Kampala and his party the National Unity Platform (NUP).
He however laughed at those alleging that his demise is being caused by witchcraft.
“I’m covered with the Jesus’ blood; no weapon formed against him will prosper. The problem is with my leg; because of the intense campaigns, I delayed to go for medical check-up but doctors are doing all the necessary work and told my people not to get worried,” Balimwezo said.
Balimwezo promised that he is ready to consult Lukwago on how to overcome the challenges facing the people of Kampala even though Lukwago’s henchmen insist that mafias in the city who target city public properties especially land are the ones who facilitated Balimwezo’s political win.
