Jennifer Kyobutungi the Kampala District Acting Returning Officer was scared and threatened by the  reaction of the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for Kawempe North Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Umar Magala.

Armed with his Declaration Forms from each and every polling station in his area, Magala was shocked by the results Kyomutungi was reading. He immediately jumped out of his chair and stormed Kyobutungi’s desk shouting on top of his voice asking her where she was getting the results she was reading.

“You woman, I’m warning you. You will be personally responsible for the crime you’re committing here using that public office. Never again play with a person who spent years in Luzira Upper Prison. Have you ever been in prison? I’m assuring you that if you are not careful you will soon be on that prisons bus,” Magala threatened.

Kyobutungi pleaded with Magala to calm down so that she compares his results and those on EC record which she was given. Upon reaching a common ground, Magala was declared the winner.

Magala is among the hundreds of youthful NUP supporters who were imprisoned after the 2021 general elections after security claimed that they were planning to burn down Kampala and forcefully overthrow Museveni’s government.

Prince Dr Kassim Nakibinge played a pivotal role in praying for Magala’s release.

Magala was given court bail and he is currently struggling to survive terrorism charges slapped to him and other co-accused persons before the International Crimes War Division of the High Court.
