Ivan Mubiru one of the councilors at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) who was denied the National Unity Platform (NUP) card has confirmed to Ono Bwino that efforts are ongoing for some NUP rejects to have an engagement with President Museveni before he starts his 2026 presidential campaigns in Buganda.

“We are still productive and active politicians who still have a lot to add to the development of our country. Bobi Wine and his people decided to dumped us with all the sacrifices we have made for him. We cannot remain at the crossroads, we must join a political vehicle to take us to our final destination in 2026,” Mubiru said

He added that joining Museveni’s team will help him and NRM to win Buganda and weaken NUP. He boasted of how they have tricks which Bobi Wine is set to use to win Buganda areas in the coming elections.

This website established that a number of councillors dropped by NUP at City Hall and at city Divisions have been holding meetings to strategise on their next move and they have engaged a number of government officials including Kampala city minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda to initiate a meeting with the President.

One of the councillors who desperately wants to meet the President told this website that they took a difficult decision to contest as independents but people are asking them for money to support them which is not done on NUP candidates.

The costs of standing as an independent is the reason why when Nasur Masaba the current KCCA deputy speaker was denied the NUP ticket, he decided to return to his private business including practising law.

Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi the NUP national deputy president for Buganda and also the Butambala county legislator confirmed that he has received intelligence that a number of their party members who were denied the party ticket including those who wanted to stand as Members of Parliament are lobbying to have an audience with President Museveni to get money and be in the good books of security so that they can be helped secure victory in the coming elections.

“No one can deceive you that Museveni is not following whatever is going on in NUP. Bags of money have been put aside simplify. The political calculation is using to use NUP members who were rejected against our own,” Kivumbi said.

The development comes at a time when some of NUP’s rejected members who include; Mityana district woman legislator Joyce Bagala Ntwtwa, Busiro East’s Medard Lubega Ssegona, Makindye West’s Allan Ssewanyana, David Musiri, Faruk Ntege and a number of others declared that they are going to contest as independents after citing bias and fraud during NUP vetting process.

However, throught his campaign trail, Bobi wine has been pleading with voters to only vote those with an umbrella, which is the NUP symbol. Bobi Wine has been telling voters that those standing as independents are working for Museveni, a statement which was praised by Kivumbi.

But Salaam Musumba of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) blasted Kivumbi on alleging that all people who are not contesting on NUP ticket are NRM.

Musumba wandered why Kivumbi is still exposing his political excitement when he has grown in politics and was trained by serious politicians like Dr Kawanga Ssemogerere and a number of others.
