The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba is investigating police leadership at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) after being informed that they are working on orders and instructions of powerful Kampala city landlords and tycoons.
The development comes after Byakagaba received a phone call from one of the influencial people in president Museveni’s government informing him that he was briefed that commanders at CPS have been compromised by city landlords not to release the KACITA acting chairperson Issa Ssekito on police bond.
“The IGP was shocked when he made a phone call to top commanders at CPS and two of them told him that they had already left office. The rest who were around distanced themselves from Ssekito’s file. The IGP was very bitter and wondered why they are harassing Ssekito at his age, he directed that within five minutes, Ssekito should be released on a police bond,” a source said.
He added that very soon, the IGP is going to do more changes in the command at CPS and he started with Patrick Onyango who was Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson who was replaced with Racheal Kawala.
Sources added that landlords wanted to use police to revenge against Ssekito for inciting traders to close their shops as sign of demonstrating against their inhuman behaviours like; frequent hiking of rent, forcing them to pay for the toilet, electricity, rubbish and floods that swept their products worth billions of shillings.
Landlords also accuse Ssekito of double standards. They allege that he eats their money upon promising them that he will contain traders and defend them before government officials. However, when traders file complaints against them, he turns and joins them to demonstrate placing the landlords in bad light before the media.
Sources divulged that among the tycoon who are bitter against Ssekito is Kiggundu who got angry opun seeing Ssekito on one of the local television talkshows accusing him of working for Museveni family.
It is alleged that Ssekito said that Ham is just a manager and the buildings are not his.
According to sources, Ssekito was supposed to be arraigned before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Court on Friday as they did to other traders arrested with him and be remanded to Luzira prison on charges of participating in unlawful demonstration and inciting violence.
