Fatima Fernandez the Venezuelan ambassador to Uganda has pleaded with president Museveni to use his position as the chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to mediate the ongoing misunderstanding between president Donald Trump of United States of America and Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela.

The ambassador made the prayers days after President Trump’s government doubled its bounty on President Maduro to Shs170bn insisting that his arrest will help in the fight against narcotics-trafficking in the world.

President Trump accuses Maduro of conniving with a cartel of narco-traffickers to flood the United States with fentanyl-laced cocaine.

However, Fernandez dismissed the allegation insisting that Trump and other developed countries placed sanctions on their president and other government officers because they are targeting the country’s wealth.

“Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves, estimated at 383.8 billion barrels which is about 19% of the world’s total. It is also ranked fourth in the natural gas reserves and second in gold, this is the reason why Venezuela is being targeted,” Fernandez said.

She explained that whatever Trump is doing to her country is against the Charter of the United Nations, its principals, values and objectives that is why other international Organizations and leaders like Museveni have to intervene.

She revealed that more than 1000 unilateral coercive measures have been imposed on her country which has affected key sectors like energy, health and banking.

She added that their government’s bank accounts in international banks have been frozen because of the sanctions slapped on the country.

“These measures are not to protect human rights as claimed by the United States because sanctions prevent us from buying medicines, food and guaranteeing education to our people. The goal is regime change and to suffocate the economy and take control of the Venezuela’s wealth,” she added.

She explained that sanctions have affected their national companies which were providing most of the country’s revenue which has led to revenue loss of nearly 87% since the sanctions were issued.

She was supported by John Ndabirano a political commentator and observer who was recently an observer of elections in Venezuela.

Ndabirano claims that United States is planning a military aggression against Venezuela which is threatening the entire region’s peace and international laws.

According to international media, United States deployed at least eight warships and one submarine to the eastern Caribbean a long with F-35 aircrafts.
