Senior manager in charge of Information, Communication and Public Relations at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Rogers Mulindwa has confirmed to CBS radio that talks to renew the cooperation agreement between his party and Democratic Party (DP) will kick off immediately after President Museveni swearing-in on 12th of May 2025.
In 2022, DP president general Norbert Mao signed an agreement with NRM in 2022.
Democratic Party (DP) President General Norbert Mao signed a cooperation agreement with the President who is also the NRM national chairman which is ending on 11th May, 2026
Out of the said cooperation agreement, Mao was appointed as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and his party Secretary General Dr Gerald Siranda’s way to represent Uganda in the East African parliament was smoothened.
Fred Mwesigwa, Mao’s personal spokesperson confirmed the expiration of the agreement adding that there is nothing to worry about because there is a clause to renew it and the process is currently at the tail end only waiting for the president to swear-in and form a new government which they are going to sign with.
He admitted that confidential party leaders were involved in the ongoing negotiations of renewing the cooperation agreement because the party constitutional gives the president general such powers to seal the deal on behalf of the party and then inform the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) after.
“As the president general told you, our enemies infiltrated our party top leadership and have been bribing them to support her political ambitions, so people like Mbidde (Fred Mukasa Mbidde, the party’s national vice president) and Siranda will not be invited in the ongoing talks, because truth be told, they betrayed us and our party,” Mwesigwa said.
When contacted, Mbidde confirmed that he does not support the renewing of the agreement insisting that DP benefited nothing from it.
He advised the party leadership to concentrate on mobilizing support for the party.
He further advised his boss Mao not to waste his time contesting for the office of Speaker of parliament noting that the cooperation agreement deal which he has been basing on to mobilize support for his candidature has expired and he is setting himself up for humiliation.
“It will be a miracle if he raises more than 20 votes. In DP we have six members of parliament but only three are going to vote for him. Those of UPC will also vote for him but majority of the NRM, NUP, FDC will vote for my candidate the incumbent Annet Anita Among,” Mbidde gave his analysis.
In response, Mwesigwa rubbished Mbidde asking him to stop humiliating Mao because has been defending and shielding him for a long time.
He warned him that Among will not help him to secure a ministerial appointment in the coming government.
“Mbidde is not betraying Mao, he is betraying himself and destroying his political career because even NRM people are wondering if he can betray Mao because of money, if given the right currency, he will sell Museveni or his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to foreign enemies since for them they have a lot of money,” Mwesigwa said.
Ono Bwino recently reported that Mao is clandestinely fronting his two blue eyed boys Mwesigwa and Kennedy Mutenyu the DP Electoral Commission chairperson to replace Siranda at the East African parliament.
Siranda declared support for Among noting that Mao is not fit for the office which annoyed DP supporters.
Some have even started the process of impeaching him from the Office of the party Secretary General.
