Hajji Yunus Kakande the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the President has confirmed that his boss President Yoweri Museveni is going to be on the 2031 ballot paper.
A furious Kakande blasted youths who are going around telling old people to leave leadership by advising them that leadership is not about age but vision, mentorship and capacity.
“Those youths should know that one time, we also were youths and very productive at their age but we were very patient as our elders were mentoring us. That’s the experience we are using to build their country, and for sure we are still around,” Kakande told Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s CBS radio.
He divulged that Museveni still has a lot to do for Uganda and advised Ugandans that they should not be surprised when he returns to contest as president in 2031.
Kakande further boasted that even then, he will defeat any youth who will come out to contest against him.
He added that youth should know where to stop with their provocations and warned that the old people they are threatening to use force to occupy their offices were once youths also but they properly put their young age to good use and never abused old people in government offices. They respected them and learnt from them.
He advised youths to be patient as the old people prepare a good foundation for them to build on instead of threatening to use violence as a means of taking over power.
Veteran journalist turned international lobbyist Andrew Mwenda said that Museveni never wants to be called a former president of Uganda.
He assured Ugandans that the old man will be in office as long as still mentally and physically fit.
Maverick Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said that when it comes to power, Museveni has no friends noting that he can imprison and act on any person even if it is a family member if they threaten his power as he is doing to opposition leaders.
Museveni captured power in 1986 through an armed struggle and since 1996, he has been contesting and defeating his opponents from Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere to Dr Kizza Besigye who is currently imprisoned on charges related to treason and now Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine).
Museveni is one of the longest serving presidents in the world and on several occasions has told those who have found fault in his longevity in power that he is in power because of democracy and Ugandans are the ones keeping him in power.
Since the age limit was lifted and term limits, there is nothing that can stop him from being the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda until his death.
