The funeral arrangements for the burial of the law giant and retired Supreme Court justice professor George Wilson Kanyeihamba have been announced.
According to the program, he will be buried on Tuesday 29th July 2025.
Today, July 23rd, 2025, there will be a Supreme Court special sitting as the judiciary and entire law fraternity in the country make their tribute to the fallen judge.
On Friday, July 25th, 2025, the family will receive mourners at their Buziga home where they will hold a service.
On Monday next week, there will also be a requiem mass at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero Kampala which will be followe by an official vigil at Kabojja International School in Buziga.
According to the arrangement, Justice Kanyeihamba will be buried at his home in Buziga and not his ancestral home district in Rubanda which has shocked many who thought that being the home where he started his well lived life, he would have wished to be buried there.
However, his longtime friend and senior political journalist Derrick Kiyonga revealed that on several occasions, when he interacted with the deceased, he often told him that he wanted to be buried at his Buziga home instead of Rubanda.
“He even one time showed me the spot where he wanted to be buried near the home’s dustbin. He told me that he wanted to be buried in Buganda because of the love the Baganda showed him, especially the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi,” Kiyonga said.
He added that Kanyeihamba re-counted to him that he got to know Kabaka Mutebi when they were both living in exile in United Kingdom where he was teaching law in Wales after President Idi Amin plotted to kill him like he did to other elites who tried to oppose his dictatorial government.
“Since their first meeting, they have remained friends till he breathed his last.”
When this reporter visited Kanyeihamba in 2023, he narrated how Kabaka Mutebi helped him to secure documents to prove that he is the owner of his home in Buziga.
Kiyonga added that on several occasion, Kabaka Mutebi himself and his family members like his wife Sylvia Nagginda Luswata have been paying Kanyeihamba a visit and have been consulting him on a number of issues
When Kanyeihamba died last week, Kabaka sent his very trusted confidant Reverand Prince Daniel Kajumba to deliver his condolence message to Kanyeihamba’s immediate family members and he officially handed it over to his son.
Kabaka confirmed that he had lost a friend in Kanyeihamba, noting that he was a man of wisdom and a royal friend.
