The Buganda Kingdom spokesperson who is also the Minister for Information, Communication and Mobilization Isreal Kazibwe Kitooke has rubbished the allegation made by Central government junior lands minister Dr. Sam Mayanja that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has delayed to congratulate his boss President Museveni over his landslide victory in the 2026 presidential elections because his win angered the king.
Mayanja who is also a longtime lawyer to President Museveni said that other cultural institutions in the country, presidents of other countries and leaders of international organisations and institutions sent congratulatory messages to President Museveni and the people of Uganda but Mengo is quiet.
“Since the 1996 elections, the Mengo government has not been supporting President Museveni thinking that the opposition is going to give them the federal government which they do not even understand how it works apart from talking about it. But the people of Buganda have been voting Museveni because they understand that they are part of his government and fully participated in bringing it to power, so even if Mengo don’t congratulate the President, he will keep on working for the people of Buganda,” Mayanja said.
However, when was contacted, Kitooke rubbished what he called Mayanja’s reckless statements warning him to stop dragging the person of Kabaka Mutebi and his government in his partisan politics.
“I know, he is panicking and threatened that he may lose his ministerial job, but dragging Kabaka in his reckless talks will not save him. His boss President Museveni knows very well and has been guiding that it is illegal for cultural institutions to participate in the partisan politics, now what is his minister talking about,” Kitooke said.
He said that the Kingdom will not issue any statement concerning the concluded elections explaining that they are concentrating their energy on how to help Kabaka’s subjects fight poverty given that it is the most serious issue they are facing at the moment.
He added that they appreciate what President Museveni did when he restored cultural institutions in the country which were abolish by president Milton Obote’s government but right now the energy is on mobilizing Kabaka’s subject to grow more coffee through Emwanyi Terimba initiative, grow other cash crops and food crops so that they have enough to feed their families as the struggle to return Buganda back on the top continues.
All opposition presidential candidates protested Museveni’s win with some declaring the 2026 elections as the most violent and fraudulent elections since Uganda obtain independence in 1962.
