Maverick Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has exclusively revealed to this website that they worked with top government officials to smuggle a recording gadget which their supreme incarcerated leader Dr Kizza Besigye used to record his address which was played at the first People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Delegates Conference.
Ssemujju boasted that Besigye is not an ordinary opposition politician like himself and other opposition leaders and it is the reason why president Museveni is scared of him.
Ssemujju disclosed that Museveni knows Besigye’s potential and what he can do including overthrowing his government if left to exercises his political tricks freely.
He explained that it is only Dr Besigye who has ever managed to escape from security deployed at his home to stop him from moving only for Museveni’s security surprisingly see him moving on the streets of Kampala city mobilizing Ugandans to join him in the struggle.

He confirmed that Besigye managed to do whatever he did and surprise Museveni and his men because he was working with people who are running Museveni’s government but are not happy with the way their boss is running the country, that is why they are helping Besigye to prove to the public that he can manage the country and that they are on his side.
He added that after the 2001 presidential elections, Besigye realised that his life was in danger because he offered himself to challenge his war comrade, he was helped by government officials to escape even though he was placed on security radar and ended up in exile in South Africa and returned to contest against the same Museveni in 2006.
Ssemujju who was elected as the PFF Secretary General confirmed that the recording played at the PFF delegates conference was recorded from Luzira Upper prison where Besigye and his political assistant Hajji Obed Lutale Kamulegeya are being detained on charges related to treason and where helped to smuggle it inside by top government officials.
“Don’t be surprised when we appoint top Museveni government officials in our new government when we take power. It’s true we are silently cooperating with different individuals and they have helped us to survive. And we are not the first to do that even Museveni was cooperating with officials in Dr Milton Obote’s government and it is the reason why Gen Edward Katumba Wamala helped Gen Salim Saleh to smuggle him out of prison in Karamoja and helped him to join other NRM fighters in the Luwero bush,” Ssemujju said.
This website can exclusively report that the recording caught a number of people including security and intelligence bosses offside because many were very sure that Besigye was going to write a dossier which was going to be read to the delegates by one of their leaders.
However, sources inside Upper prison claim that the recording gadget must have been smuggled inside Dr Besigye’s cell by a senior prisons officer because they are the ones allowed to interact with him on a daily basis to understand how he is feeling.
“But for us we were not surprised because Besigye has spent more than six months here, that is too much time for someone to create a good relationship with prison personnel who can help you get something you need even though it is not allowed inside here. People are smuggling newspapers and magazines, cigarettes and other things which are not allowed here, the issue is money and friends, then everything is done,” a senior prisons officer said.
He added that many prison personnel look at Besigye as a hero and it is the reason why they are handling him with care and they are always allow him to have private meetings at Court with different people, especially his most trusted lawyer Brian Turinawe.
Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze Bakireke claims that when Besigye was remanded to Luzira in November 2024, Museveni made sure that he is isolated and it is the reason why they immediately changed the Upper prison bosses and brought in new faces claiming that they are Special Forces Command (SFC) Commandos to control Besigye with toughness.
However, when contacted, Afande Frank Baine Mayanja rubbished the claim that there was a gadget which was smuggled inside the prison and recorded Besigye’s speech insisting that the voices which incited his supporters were done by AI technology.
“They cannot manage our security, we are very careful with all objects and materials entering our premises, that’s AI technology,” Baine boasted.
The development comes at a time when Museveni’s intelligence is accusing Besigye, Lutale and UPDF’s Captain Denis Oola together with others still at large of infiltrating the president’s security with the agenda of assassinating him and causing chaos in the country.
Besigye denied all the allegations placed on him even though veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda insisted that Besigye was planning to kill Museveni after failing to defeat him through an election.
