Maverick city lawyer Male Mabirizi rushed to social media to blow his own trumpet after controversial Court of Appeal Justice Musa Ssekaana survived his ‘Slap’ when they met in the corridors of the Court of Appeal building
“SSEKAANA slightly missed my SLAP when I found him in the TINY Court of Appeal stairs. He looked frightened since he had nowhere to run,” Mabirizi boasted.
However, sources at the Court of Appeal told us that when the two met each other at the stairs, they each other looked the other way even though Justice Ssekaana’s bodyguard who nowadays dresses in suits was on alert and intensely placed his eyes on Mabirizi.
As Mabirizi was boasting, his followers warned him to stop insulting a judicial official, noting that he will be imprisoned again.
“He (Ssekaana) would have imprisoned you again for assault, you don’t have to beat this oppressor physically, he’s feeling your daily assault whenever you stand tall against injustice in courts and your resilience after serving the unfair sentence” a one MP OUT stated.
“What I know, Sekaana can beat you with one hand behind,” another one said
Kwenury responded, “History will not forgive u for missing such a chance, personally I would not forgive u if it was his boss that u spared.”
Since 2020, there has been a sharp misunderstanding between Mabirizi and Ssekaana which resulted into Ssekaana sending Mabirizi to sleep in prison on contempt of Court charges for 18 months.
Their troubles started when Mabirizi dragged Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama the chairperson of the Uganda Electoral Commission to Court claiming that he didn’t resign from the Justiciary where he is still a judge of the Court of Appeal before taking the new job to manage the country’s elections.
Mabirizi together with Kampala city Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago pleaded with Justice Ssekaana to recuse himself from the matter insisting that before being appointed a Judge of the High Court by president Museveni, he was a lawyer both to justice Byabakama and the Electoral Commission.
Justice Ssekaana declined to recuse himself from the matter insisting that he made an oath before the appointing authority to give justice at all costs which Mabirizi and Lukwago protested.
Mabirizi was joined by Uganda Law Society president Isaac Ssemakadde and the duo took the fight to social media which annoyed top judiciary leaders including the Chief Justice Owiny Dollo who declared war both on Mabirizi and Ssemakadde.
Early this year, Ssekaana imprisoned Ssemakadde for two years on offences related to contempt of Court which forced Ssemakadde to run into exile as his lawyers fought to overturn Ssekaana’s decision.
Chief Justice Dollo insists that the only way Ssemakadde can survive imprisonment is through apologising to Justice Ssekaana which he declined to do. He insists that he will fight and win legally.
