The threat of Ebola disease outbreak in Uganda has forced the organizers of the mountains for medicine riding to shift it to Kenya over health issues.
The international bicycle riding competition is organized every year in Uganda in order to raise money and other funds for Nia Davenport medical centre in Kiwawu, a long Mityana Road.
This year’s competition will be organized in Kenya because of Ebola disease scare and it is expected to kick-off on Saturday in Nairobi city.
The starting point will be Nairobi and cyclists will ride up to Busia on Uganda, Kenya border which covers a space of over 460 kilometres
According to the organizers, the riders are expected to spend three days from Nairobi to reach Busia.
The riders will then continue on the same journey back to Nairobi which will take another two days.
This year’s competition has attracted cyclists from different countries including United States of America which brought more than seven female riders and six male participates.
The cause for this year’s riding competition, is to rise 300,000 US dollars to buy equipment and medicines for Nia Davenport medical centre.
Robert Katende the Chief Executive Officer of SOM thanked God for having enabled him and other members on the organizing committee to make the competition to happen.
Doctor Michael Nsimbi from Nia Davenport medical centre thanked all contributors to their cause that will help save peoples’ lives.
“I’m glad that we have accomplished the journey when we are still live,” Nsimbi said.
