Fugitive Uganda Law Society (ULS) boss Senior Counsel Isaac Ssemakadde has pleaded with Justice Walimbwa Gadenya of the Criminal Division of the High Court to vacate all the arrest warrants issued against him by Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi.

Ssemakadde through his lawyers led by Constitutional law giant Derrick Bazzeketta of GEM Advocates insists that all the arresting warrants issued by Kayizzi violate his right to freedom of expression, freedom of movement and international law standards.

“I am challenging all the arrest warrants issued against me since they are unjustified and politically motivated. A petition is currently before the High Court seeking cancellation of the orders issued by Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court in the Criminal Case No 913 of 2024,” Ssemakadde’s affidavit in support of his application at the High Court read in parts.

Ssemakadde’s lawyers pleaded with the presiding judge to prioritise his application and be pleased to issue an interim order staying the criminal proceedings against their client before Kayizzi.

On the issue of the international arresting warrant issued against him, Ssemakadde instructed his lawyers to make sure that they engage Interpol leaders to explain to them why they should not execute the directives issued by Kayizzi.

Kayizzi decline to stay the criminal proceedings against Ssemakadde as his lawyers had prayed.

He informed them that even though their client’s criminal file was taken to the High Court for further management, he will continue handling the matter through Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS) because he can access the file through the said application on his laptop.

Ssemakadde’s troubles were initiated by two lawyers Tonny Tumukunde and Joshua Byamazima who instituted a private criminal proceeding against their professional umbrella body ULS accusing him as presiden t of the body of making derogatory and scandalous remarks against the person of Justice Jane Frances Abodo the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) when he was addressing supporters and leaders of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) a political pressure group at their offices in Nakasero a Kampala Suburbs.

Byamazima and Tumukunde who publicly didn’t support Ssemakadde during the ULS elections informed Kayizzi that the accused person intentionally refused to respect his orders insisting that they served him and his lawyers who received the court documents.

As Ssemakadde’s lawyers are battling to fuse Kayizzi’s warrant of arrest orders, their client is also in the Court of Appeal fighting to see that three justices of the higher Court overturn the decision of Justice Musa Ssekaana who was recently elevated to Court of Appeal who imprisoned him for two years on contempt of Court offences.

However, highly placed sources in one of the country’s top intelligence agencies revealed to this website that Ssemakadde is currently on security’s radar and they are following his movements.

“Ssemakadde is not far, he is near our borders with our neighbours,” a source said.

Recently, this website reported how Ssemakadde was planning to run into exile through seeking asylum in Germany or the Netherlands and sources insist that those two countries can accept his applications easily compared to the United States of America and United Kingdom where he wishes to run into.

This website has further established that Ssemakadde has declined to take the option of apologising to justice Ssekaana as Chief Justice Owiny Dollo advised him as a condition to vacate the prison sentence issued against him.

Sources insist that maverick Ssemakadde cannot accept to apologize because they both have their long time personal grievances against each other.
