The family and friends of Augustine Kasozi a prominent businessman and the proprietor of Mukono based Colline hotel, Sports View Hotel in Bweyogerere along Jinja road and Mukono bookshop in Kampala are very worried over his worsening illness which keeps him home as his medical doctor’s struggle to handle the situation with his immediate family members taking care of him.

Last month, Catholics in Lugazi Diocese who overwhelmingly attended the consecration ceremony of Seeta Parish where they also marked the completion of the St Augustine Catholic Church in Seeta were shocked to learn at the last hour that their colleague Kasozi was not going to attend the ceremony.

Kasozi single handedly funded the construction of the said multibillion church until its completion including providing all the materials that were used to furnish the inside like furniture to stand the standard fit for the headquarters of the newly established Seeta Parish.

Seeta parish covers several sub-parishes including Nyenje, Seeta Central, and Bajjo and for a longtime, it has been Kasozi’s dream to have Seeta upgraded to a full Parish.

“The day was to celebrate the legacy of Mzee Kasozi and he has been always mobilizing the Catholic community to attend in large numbers as he hands over the newly constructed church to Catholic Church leadership. The same ceremony was supposed to be used to launch his memoir, ‘from classroom to the boardroom’ which detailed his life story, tracing his journey from his early career as a school teacher to his rise to being a prominent businessman in the country,” a close friend said.

Kasozi was very instrumental in compromising the leadership at Lugazi Diocese to make Seeta a Parish  and he achieved it by upgrading the status of the building where the Parish headquarters was going to be.

Ono Bwino has learnt that his lobbying started during the tenure of Bishop Matthias Ssekamaanya who retired until Bishop Christopher Kakooza confirmed the establishment of the said Parish.

To appreciate him, the Catholics in the area named the Church St Augustine from his name Augustine since he shared his name with the saint but they were not happy for not celebrating with him as the Church Officially launched.

Family sources said that Kasozi is being troubled by high blood pressure, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases. He is also stressed by the ongoing Court cases as he struggles to save his multibillion empire from banks and money lenders.

Usually, Kasozi has always been seen at his Colline hotel especially in the evenings enjoying the company of his longtime friends who include the State Minister for Education John Chrysostom Muyingo but now it has taken months without him going to the hotel or his office at Mukono bookshop in Kampala city.

Family sources added that Kasozi has been always complaining about his children staying abroad who don’t want to come back to Uganda to start managing his business especially at this time when he is not doing very well health wise.
