Ono Bwino can exclusively report that Murchison Bay prison Luzira Muslim leadership have announced a full month of prayers and fasting to seek for Allah’s intervention after the Officer in Charge of the prison Superintendent of Prisons Herbert Kaheeru blocked the 10000litres water tank donation to the Muslim community.
Last month, Ono Bwino reported that incarcerated former Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago announced that he had donated a 10000litres water tank to the Muslim community in the prison in his bid to solve the water problem.
Water is one of the essentials which Muslims need especially to clean themselves before praying each day and they also use it to clean the mosque and toilets.
The Muslims in prison have previously pleaded to top Muslims who were once in prison like Yusuf Mutembuli the former Bunyoli East Member of Parliament to help them solve the water crisis but they failed until Lukwago promise to handle it.

Because it was difficult for Lukwago to order his people to buy, transport and put up the tank, he made computed the cost and through his prison account, released the money to buy and set up the tank.
Unfortunately, last week, the prison officers in charge of prison’s money informed him that the money which he had released to buy a water tank and erect it was returned to his account on Kaheeru’s orders.
Being a lawyer and knows his rights to worship, Lukwago put up a spirited fight insisting that Kaheeru has to explain why he was blocking his donation to the Muslim community.
He was told that Kaheeru blocked the donation because it was going to turn the prison into a political platform for Lukwago to spread opposition agendas and propaganda among inmates.
Lukwago announced the bad news to Muslims who lost their patience noting that since the issue is above them as prisoners, they should surrender it to the almighty Allah for his spiritual intervention.
“This is unacceptable, Allah has to listen to our prayers. I was going to make a record of being Imam who solved water problem in this community through our beloved brother Erias” the Imam for the Murchison Bay prison quoted telling Muslims.
He announced with immediate effect a full month of prayers and fasting seeking for Allah’s intervention so that Kaheeru can reverse his decision.
Lukwago was also angered by the decision of blocking his donation and since then, he has been pleading with his visitors to deliver his complaint on behalf of the entire Muslim community in the prison to the national Muslim leadership to intervene noting that the water problem in the prison is visible.
However, Ono Bwino can report that the 60-inch television set which Lukwago also bought to inmates sleeping in the hospital ward was allowed and prisoners are enjoying it while praising the national president of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Lukwago’s name.
Lukwago was abducted from his Wakaliga home by armed men on his way to the military headquarters in Mbuya to serve the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Court documents concerning the human rights enforcement application filed by his client opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye and his political assistant Hajji Obed Lutale Kamulegeya.
Lukwago was charged with mistreason of treason and both the magistrate’s Court in Makindye and Criminal Division of the High Court have since dismised his bail application even though Mulago Specialised Referral Hospital medical doctors indicated that his continued imprisonment is threatening his life and advised that he should be taken abroad for specialized treatment.
Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine Mayanja was not available by press time to comment on the matter while Kaheeru’s known phone numbers went unanswered.
