The contest for Kawempe South Member of Parliament seat come 2026 elections has created division within National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine’s family among his two brothers Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu and Micheal Mukwaya (Mikie Wine) who are fighting for the party ticket.

Highly placed sources in NUP have revealed to this website that without consulting his brothers, Mikie Wine has started clandestine political mobilization seeking for support as the new area legislator to replace Bashir Kazibwe Mbazira who is in bad books with NUP’s top leadership.

Mikie Wine has also started pinning his posters in the area, meeting foot soldiers and assuring them that he is the one with Bobi Wine’s blessing and they should mobilize support for him.

The development comes months after Bobi Wine forced Nyanzi to drop his political ambitions to contest against Ssalongo Erias Lukwago for Kampala Lord Mayor seat and advised him to contest for Kawempe South, a proposal he painfully accepted.

The party is preparing to front Nakawa East legislator Ronald Balimwezo to contest against Lukwago come 2026.

Bobi Wine is set to replace Balimwezo with his blue eyed boy Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro the party’s deputy spokesperson and he has already started mobilizing support for the seat.

Sources said that the constituency has started feeling Mikie Wine’s presence more than that of Nyanzi’s, a situation that has created tension and placed Bobi Wine in a rock and hard place since choosing Mickie over Nyanzi will look like betraying him given that he was the one who advised him to contest in Kawempe South and even promised him all his support.

However, sources close to Bobi Wine have disclosed to this website making hard decisions has never been Bobi Wine’s problem.

These sources divulged when it comes to his party, he puts family issues aside and it is the reason why in 2021, he declined to give the party card to his brother Eddy Yawe and gave it to Jimmy Lukwago who was defeated be Ibrahim SSemujju Nganda in Kira Municipality.

As the Bobi Wine family are fighting for the party ticket, Kawempe Division mayor Emmanuel Sserunjogi Oweddembe has also entered a deal with former Kawempe North member of parliament Latif Ssebaggala for them to support each other come 2026.

According to sources, Ssebaggala has agreed to support Sserunjogi in his quest to take over Kawempe North Constituency and Sserunjogi has equally agreed to support SSebaggala in his persuit for Kawempe Division mayor seat.

Sources on the ground revealed to this website that the Ssebaggala, Sserunjogi’s coalition will be very difficult to defeat because both of them understand the political ground in the area they are vying for and they can pull the political support from Nyanzi and his younger brother Mikie Wine.
