Armed with strong authorities, Bayern Turinawe the son to celebrated political activist Ingrid Turinawe has defied controversial Criminal Division of the High Court Judge Emmanuel Baguma on how to defend opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye and his political confidant Hajji Obed Lutale.
After Kenyan senior counsel Martha Karua who is leading Dr Besigye’s legal team concluded her submission on challenging the decision of forcing her clients to take plea on what she termed as defective charges, Bayern stood up to supplement her with strong Supreme Court authorities to guide the presiding judge when giving his decision.
Before elaborating more on his authorities, judge Baguma told Bayern that he was wasting courts time because he has nothing powerful he was going to add on the matter after the submissions of the senior counsel and also leader of their team.
With confidence, Bayern assured Baguma that he was on Besigye’s legal team not by mistake. He insisted that he has instructions to defend his client with all his legal expertise which he was exhibiting before him.

Justice Baguma first refused to record Bayern’s submission but the young lawyer continued backing his authorities with legal interpretation. The judge looked amused with the submissions and started recording.
It is not a surprise that judge Baguma finally allowed the application on a defective charge sheet and directed prosecution to amend it so that with immediate effect the accused persons take plea.
Sources said that Bayern is one of the lawyers Besigye trusts so much and he always takes his advice.
Ono Bwino has also established that Besigye was very instrumental in Bayern’s education.
State accuses Besigye, Hajji Obed Lutale, UPDF soldier Captain Denis Oola and others still at large of planning to assassinate President Museveni, poison top government officials and cause to overthrow of government illegally.
