Senior Kampala affairs minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda’s supporters are challenging Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) diehard and also the former boss at Owino market Suzan Kushaba to display his academic credentials and contest against Kabanda.
Kushaba has been on the ground mobilizing political support assuring his supporters that she was going to contest on the NRM ticket because her boss in PLU Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba guided them to support and contest on NRM ticket in the 2026 elections.
However, she didn’t pick nomination papers from the NRM electoral commission even though her main political rival Kabanda was nominated by Dr Tanga Odoi the chairperson of the party’s electoral commission.
When contacted, Kushaba assured us that she is going to contest in the general elections using a different strategy.
Kushaba explained that she established that Kabanda was planning to frustrate her political ambitions by stealing her victory in the NRM primaries which would stop her from contesting as an independent in the general elections.
However, Kabanda’s people insist that she lacks the Uganda Advanced Education Certificate (UACE) and thus cannot contest against their candidate.
“That’s not true, for me I have the required academic papers, that Kabanda is just spreading political malice against me scared since she has little support. They fear my mobilization ability and I will defeat them,” Kushaba boasted.
But minister Kabanda’s supporters insist that she doesn’t have papers that’s why she missed the opportunity of getting president Museveni’s juicy job after dismissing her from heading Owino market.
A source said that she was in the meeting at Entebbe State House when Museveni asked Kushaba how far she went with her education and she confirmed that she stopped in primary six.
“The big man shook his head but promises to get a place where to place her.”
Kushaba’s fight with Kabanda resulted from the bitter fight over Owino market leadership.
Kushaba blamed Kabanda for being behind her dismissal and the dismissal of Dr Dorothy Kisaka from the office of the KCCA Executive Director.
Since then, Kushaba declared a personal war on Kabanda and she has been in different city markets mobilizing vendors and traders not to elect Kabanda claiming that she is the problem and reason why they are being harassed.
