Ono Bwino can exclusively report that a few weeks back, a team of top criminal investigators led by Maj Dr Tom Magambo the Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director inspected the VIP rooms at Kira Division police to confirm the conditions there because a decision was issued to detain former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among there after recording a statement at Kibuli CID headquarters.

However, there was a sharp division among the detectives after a section of them protested Among’s detention on grounds that she looked very sick.

“Please, Uganda has big land, when she dies, we shall bury her. What I want is to see her detained,” a highly placed source quoted one of the senior detectives vowing in one of the heated meetings.

As the arrangement was being processed, Among through her contacts reached out to President Museveni and pleaded with him to allow her to proceed to Mulago referral hospital and meet her personal doctors claiming that her blood pressure was high.

Sources said that the President was not shocked because he was aware of Among’s delicate health condition and immediately communicated to Maj Magambo and other detectives to hold the move of detaining her in police cells.

“The president knows very well that Among was travelling to Italy not only to meet the Pope but also get specialised treatment. She is suffering from a strange disease, so the president allowed her to be escorted to the hospital,” a source said.

David Kabanda the Kasambya county Member of Parliament also claimed that he is the one who negotiated her meeting with doctors after consulting Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) who was supervising the operations against Among.

Sources said that two weeks back, Museveni met Among at Nakasero State lodge where she had gone to negotiate her pardon insisting that she bought the luxurious cars, clothes, watches and items recovered from her homes using her own money from her own businesses including schools.

Sources divulged that it is during this meeting that Among also told Museveni that she wanted to go abroad to receive medication adding that her life was in danger as a result of the stress she went through during the operation against her.

Sources said that Museveni told Among to calm down and not to stress herself over the ongoing investigations. He promised to be the first person to inform her of any further action against her concerning the ongoing investigations.

According to sources, the President also told Among that the sanctioned investigations against her is above him because the alleged stolen money is not his personal money but money belonging to Ugandans.

Sources said that the Inspector General of Government (IGG) who is leading the criminal investigations against Among has not yet finalised her assignment which will guide the President’s next move on Among.

Among is currently under house arrest and her Nakasero home is under surveillance and top security commanders who supervises the ongoing investigation are following her movements and whoever visited her

Among is accused of abuse of office as a speaker of parliament between 2022-2026 and stealing billions of funds which were supposed to facilitate parliament work.

She is also accused of participating in other grave criminalities.
