Friends of boxers which is an umbrella body which brings together fans, supporters and former boxers have launched a drive campaign to help and support upcountry boxers as an initiative to extend the game to the common person on ground and build a fan base for the future.
The campaign aimed at organizing and conducting boxing training sessions to improve and advance skills of the boxers so that they adopt new skills in fighting.
The campaign is also going to help the boxing administrators with advanced international leadership skills which will help them to organize players so that they compete on international forums.
The friends of Boxing started with handling over Boxing equipment which included; boxing mouth guards, bandages, t-shirts and boxing pads to Gulu boxing community from Northern Uganda, Brawn boxing club, Kintintale boxing club and Kampala Boxing Club (KBC).
The organizes used the launch of the drive to engage different boxing leaders from upcountry as they enjoy eats and drinks.
“As we promised you, we shall continue helping the boxing community with equipment and administration knowledge until the entire country is covered. The boxing game has to shine again,” former national boxing team boxer Godfrey Wakabu said.
The first meeting was held at Panamera pitch next to Kampala Parents School where hundreds of boxers attended the session which was conducted by experienced instructors, including former boxer Godfrey Wakabu and Dickson Charles Kasumba aka China.
The meeting was also attended by active boxers who included African and World Super Bantamweight Champion Frank Kiwalabye, Kenny De Mexico, Marvin Omondi among others.
