Controversial city tycoon Drake Lubega confirmed to Ono Bwino online that tenants working on Leisure Tec building along Namirembe road should comply with his new regulations as the new landlord.

Sources close to the businessman told this website that he bought the building from another controversial businessman Desh Kananura at an undisclosed amount in billions of shillings and for the last three months, he has been warning tenants to either accept his rules or leave the building.

While the tenants were protesting and petitioning trader’s leadership in the city, Lubega started bringing building materials to confirm to them that he is going to start renovating his new building so that it reaches the standard he wants.

“Let them go and rent on John Kabanda’s building because they are reporting me to him. If they want to talk I am available instead of them talking to their fake leaders,” Lubega told Ono Bwino.

Sources disclosed that Kananura sold his building to solve his personal financial problems including facilitating his medication locally and abroad. It is alleged he is suffering from a number illnesses which include diabetes and high blood pressure and he needs specialized treatment.

Kananura’s LeisureTec Bar was also operating on the same building. Sources allege that he is planning to move it to Liberty building, another building on the same street.

Sources divulged that since Kananura was implicated in the murder of his worker Badru Kateregga at Panamera bar and survived conviction after Criminal Division of the High Court exonerated him, he has been well healthwise and has been struggling financially.

He went on a selling spree of his properties in Muyenga, Naguru and other parties of the country to survive. His father also petitioned President Museveni for a financial bailout and also asked for a tax waiver from URA.

Kabanda the president of the Federation of Uganda Traders Association (FUTA) told Ono Bwino that they are going to make sure that Lubega does not throw out tenants who has been operating on Kananura’s building without putting their business interests into consideration.
