Former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa who is also father-in-law to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has confirmed to National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership and supporters in Mawogola that he is not going to campaign for any party candidate in these elections apart from President Museveni.

Kutesa said that he is going to spend much of his time mobilizing for votes for Museveni and making sure that opposition especially Mawogola South’s Gorreth Namugga of the National Unity Platform (NUP) is evicted from parliament.

Sources said that Kutesa’s declaration resulted from dissatisfaction with the way his daughter Shartsi Musherure Kutesa was forced to withdraw from the NRM party parliamentary primaries and gave way to president Museveni’s brother Godfrey Aine Kaguta stand go unopposed.

Sources said that Musherure was ready to defend her position as Mawogola North legislator but Museveni summoned a family meeting and guided her to stand down in favour of Kaguta because of the agreement they reached upon in the 2020 when Kaguta agreed to stand down for Musherure.

Sources said that Museveni guided to avoid bloodshed in the area as it was in 2020 before his intervention and to guide the family.

Even though Musherure accepted the guidance, she together with a section of other members who believe in her refused to support Kaguta.

Sources said that among those is her father, her twin sister Charlotte Nankunda Kutesa wife to Gen Muhoozi, First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni and Muhoozi.

Sources claim as an alternative, Kampala based lawyer Jet Tumwebaze was picked and fronted to contest against Kaguta and after nomination, he started with challenging Kaguta’s nomination insisting that he doesn’t have the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.

This is not the first time Museveni has face challenges especially concerning politics, on several occasions, Museveni has been stopping his family members from competing in elective politics.

It should be remembered that even though his wife who also doubles as the Minister for Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni contested as a Member of Parliament in Ntungamo district, he managed to stop Aine in 2020 and Shedruck Nzeire Kaguta from contesting for a top executive position in the just concluded NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
