After Kawempe North Member of Parliament Erias Nalukola Luyimbazi sealed a political deal with troubled Umar Magala not to contest against him in the 2026 parliamentary elections, Motiv Kasagga who was eying the Kawempe North Councillorship also pulled out of the race.

Kasagga said that he took the decision because he doesn’t want to compete for the ticket of the National Unity Platform (NUP) with a close friend in the struggle Magala who is still struggling with terrorism charges before the Crimes War Division of the High Court

Kasagga who had already painted Kawempe North with his posters decided to shift goalposts and contest for Kawempe Division councillorship.

However, shockingly, without telling his supporter, he also pulled out of the race for that position.

This website can exclusively report that to drop out of the race, the always jolly Kasagga was summoned at one of the hangouts around Makerere Kavule near the NUP party headquarters by one of his party top leaders and he was told that one of his competitors wanted to engage him so that he pulls out of the race for him.

“Kasagga was told that other man who is a businessman was ready to compensate him the money he has already used in his campaigns, and the party leader told him to mainly consider the expense he had incurred printing and pinning his posters,” a source said.

His boss told him that he was still a young man with a lot of time a head of him. He further told him that even if he doesn’t contest for the position this campaign, he will still get his monthly salary from the party’s media department

Ono Bwino online has established that Kasagga pockets around Shs1m without other allowances.

After reading the situation, that his boss was favouring his competitor after, and because the man who was compromising him is one of his bosses and his voice is well respected among his fellow party leaders when it comes on who gets the party ticket, he painfully decided to pull out of the race and concentrated much of his energy on mobilizing political support for his principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine).

Kasagga was among the foot soldiers arrested in the operation commanded by late Lt Gen Paul Lokech when Bobi Wine was campaigning in Kalangala district in 2021 and spent a number of months in prison.
