Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has revealed that one of the reasons why they frequently visited Dr Kizza Besigye at Luzira prison where he is detained on treason charges is to seek guidance from him on how to bring all opposition political parties together so that they speak one voice come 2026.

He confirm that Besigye was the brain behind the political agreement between his People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) and Gen Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transition (ANT) adding that talks with other political parties including the National Unity Platform (NUP) are ongoing.

However, NUP’s deputy president in charge of Buganda and also the Butambala county legislator Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has said that they will not just join political opposition groups because they have told them to come together to fight Museveni because there are people in the opposition who they cannot work with.

“As I talk to you now, I have classified information that Museveni has agreed to release Shs30bn to fight my party and our presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine). I speak with authority that part of the money has already been released and it is the one you are seeing people splashing in the public organizing political functions,” Kivumbi said.

He challenged former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga’s Democratic Front (DF) to prove with evidence where they  got the Shs600m they claim to have used in their concluded National Delegates Conference in Masaka city.

Kivumbi bragged that he has been in Uganda for long and knos the games politicians play revealing that he is closely working with people in DF and he knows very well their financial capacities.

When contacted for a comment over the matter, Micheal Mabikke the DF Secretary General declined to comment on the matter insisting that he was in the middle of the meeting.

We tried to call the party national chairperson Samuel Lubega Mukakku and the person who picked his phone told us that the big man had travelled to Northern Uganda to supervise party work while Moses Kasibante the former Lubaga North legislator and the party spokesperson did not pick his known phone numbers.

This is not the first time when DF top leaders are being implicated in eating Museveni’s money.

Before parting ways with Mukaku and Mabikke, Vicent Mayanja the DP block coordinator alleged that they picked billions of shillings from Museveni to fight Bobi Wine and they used the money to buy houses, cars and land.

Kivumbi said that they will only join Gen Muntu’s political coalition with Besigye after getting assurance that questionable members of the opposition are not part of them noting that they cannot work with people who picked Museveni’s money to fight them or people who are engaged in political cooperation agreements with Museveni like Norbert Mao’s Democratic Party, James Akena’s Uganda People’s Congress and Forum for Democratic Change’s Patrick Amuriat.

Ono Bwino has established that even though Kivumbi is protesting cooperation with Akena, Bobi Wine is trying to convince his party fellow leaders to sign a cooperation agreement with UPC so that they work together during the 2026 elections and after to either  form a coalition government or a coalition shadow government in parliament.

Sources inside NUP claim that Bobi Wine is also targeting 2031 and he is very sure that Akena’s coalition will help them pull numbers from Northern Uganda especially Lango where UPC is very popular and in turn UPC will benefit from NUP’s popularity in Buganda and Busoga.

Ssemujju noted that currently, Dr Besigye is the only person who can compromise Bobi Wine to join their political coalition because before his imprisonment, they always held private talks both in Kasangati and Magere.

Since 2006, opposition leadership have been trying to front a single candidate to contest against Museveni but have failed and Kivumbi accuses Museveni of using State power and money to sabotage their efforts.

Highly placed sources within the corridors of power confirmed to Ono Bwino that a number of opposition politicians are fighting to access the said amount of money and it is the reason why they are buying dormant political parties to use them as a vehicle.

The development comes at a time when former Kawempe South legislator and Dr Besigye’s henchman Mubrak Munyagwa declared that he is going to launch his political party. Sources are claiming that he bought the Peasant party.

Kampala central legislator Muhammad Nsereko has also bought the Ecological party and he has already declared his intentions to contest on their flag in the coming presidential elections

However, other sources in the opposition said that they are buying political parties because they want to use them as political vehicles in the succession battle after getting information that Museveni is likely to retire in 2031 and to take over power, politicians have to form political coalitions.
