Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has revealed that recently, opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye summoned his lawyers and top leadership of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) at Luzira Upper Prison to discuss an emergency issue concerning their life in prison.
Ssemujju said that he was shocked when Besigye’s co-accused who is also his political assistant Al-Hajji Obed Lutale was sidelined in the meeting.
“Dr Besigye read my mind and told us that he knows everyone of us was asking where is Al-hajji Obed. He informed us that he did it intentionally because he wanted us to strategise on which possibilities, we can employ to at least have Obed released from prison because whenever he looks at him, he feels bad,” Ssemujju said
Ssemujju said that he was shocked because for Besigye, he was not bothered about his overstay in prison. He assured them that staying in prison is better than the five years he spent in bush fighting with President Museveni to liberate Uganda from bad governance which they successfully did.

Ssemujju added that the lawyers led by Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago assured Besigye that they are going to handle the matter but when they visited Obed, he told them that he feels okay in prison and they should not be pressurized and commit mistakes struggling to secure his freedom.
Speaking to celebrated investigative journalist Solomon Sserwanja, Dr Winnie Byanyima wife to Dr Besigye confirmed that she discussed Dr Besigye’s imprisonment with President Museveni but she declined to reveal the details of their discussion.
This website has further established that Dr Besigye himself told religious leaders from Rukungiri and elders who wanted to talk to President Museveni over his freedom that they should do it on their own not on his behalf insisting that he committed no crime against the State of Uganda.
The development comes at a time when Dr Besigye is at war with Justice Emmanuel Baguma of the Criminal Division of the High Court who refused him to personally address him in an open Court directing him to put whatever he wanted to tell him in writing which he did in protest.
Besigye tasked Justice Baguma to cite for him a law that prevents him as an accused person to address the presiding judicial officer presiding over his matter because he has lawyers representing him.
Both Justice Baguma and Comfort Kania have declined to release Besigye and Obed on bail even though they have both admitted that he and Lutale have all the requirements to be released on bail.
Besigye and Obed were kidnapped from Nairobi Kenya in November 2024 and charged with criminal offences related to having a plan to assassinate President Museveni, poison his government officials and overthrow his government illegally.
All the accused persons including UPDF Captain Denis Oola denied the charges.
