Recently, maverick National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro revealed that his loving wife Edith Mufumbiro was diagnosed with cancer.
Mufumbiro went ahead to narrate the painful struggle he is going through with his immediate family and friends.
In Uganda, one has to endure a painful struggle to get proper treatment for their patient battling with cancer because treatment at Uganda Cancer Institute Mulago is very expensive even though medics are also trying their level best to save lives.
That is why those with money and connections in government always fly their loved ones abroad to receive the best Medicare.
Those close to President Museveni are always recommended to take their people to German because he knows that German has the best medical facilities.
Some of the prominent people who have received medication from German include; Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the Kabaka of Buganda and former Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa.
Other patients are taken to the United States of America and in Africa to countries like Kenya, Egypt, and South Africa that also have good health facilities that treat cancer.
Because of the expensiveness of the cancer treatment, highly placed sources inside National Unity Platform (NUP) Deep State revealed that it is the reason why their party principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) is fighting tooth and nail to make sure that Mufumbiro secures a well-paying government job.
“When people started saying that Mufumbiro is going to contest in Lubaga South after Kawempe South, Bobi Wine was not as serious as he is now. He is doing whatever he can to make sure that Mufumbiro enters parliament through the coming 2026 parliamentary elections,” a source said
He explained that even though Mufumbiro wanted to contest in Kawempe South, given that it is where his place of work is, since NUP head offices are situated there, many local politicians started mobilizing voters never again to vote any person who was not born in the area because many who they have voted for have betrayed them after being elected.
Among those who annoyed voters are Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga who was born from western Uganda. They first voted him as Kawempe Division mayor and later as MP but he abandoned them.
When they dropped him and replaced him with Bashir Kazibwe Mbazira, he also followed Munyagwa’s footsteps.
After making a number of political consultations and calculations, NUP Deep State established that Mufumbiro cannot win in Kawempe and at the same time he cannot win in his home area in Busoga where he contested in the 2021 parliamentary elections and was badly defeated.
They argued that because he rents a house in Nakawa East and there are many people from Busoga in the area, Bobi Wine himself led negotiations to have the incumbent Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo shift to contest against Omuloodi Ssalongo Erias Lukwago for the position of the Lord Mayor of Kampala city.
Sources said that Bobi Wine directed the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi and party local mobilizers to lead the political mobilization drive to make sure that they secure a Mufumbiro win.
“The only threat Mufumbiro has is Micheal Kabaziguruka but NRM’s Fredrick Ruhindi’s chances are slim because of his age and his party,” a source said.
As Bobi Wine prayed for Mufumbiro’s win, he also made sure that he secures a stable well-paying government job for his long term friend musician Ali Bukeni (Nubian Lee) which will help him take care of his family.
Sources disclosed that since Museveni’s government banned Bobi Wine from practising his career as a musician in Uganda, Lee turned jobless because without Bobi Wine, he also cannot perform and has been surviving on Bobi Wine’s handouts.
Recently, Bobi Wine convinced Lee’s competitor Godfrey Luyombya to step down for him which he did and he even joined his camp to mobilise for his support and also help Mufumbiro because he is well grounded in the area.
“Yes, it is true, Lee and Mufumbiro were paid by the party not less than Shs5m a month and other allowances but with this IPOD troubles, we are not sure whether the party will manage to get the money to pay staff and other leaders who run the day to day work,” a source said.
Not having a well paying government job is also the reason why NUP’s Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya decided to contest in Kampala Central which many opposition politicians protested.
Many even challenged him on why he did not go back to his home area in western Uganda to contest there.
President Museveni signed the political parties and organisation amendments act which curtails political parties which don’t participate in IPOD meetings and dialogues from receiving money from the government even though they have Members in parliament.
However, Mufumbiro assured the country that Bobi Wine will never sit with Museveni in IPOD meetings that is why he signed the controversial amendments thinking that he can use it as a tool to force Bobi Wine to meet him and get a photo with him which he can use to misled the world that the duo are in good working relationship.
