Appearing on Radio Simba’s Olutindo talk show hosted by seasoned senior journalist Peter Kibazo, Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze Bakireke made serious allegations against the employees of Buganda Kingdom citing fraud.
“When I get the opportunity I will report to our Premier Charles Peter Mayiga about the ongoing fraud among the Kingdom staff, I have enough evidence to expose them,” Nambooze said.
She insists that the number of 120,000 people who participated in Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s 70th birthday run was very little.
She claims that according to her calculations, she thinks that Buganda Kingdom staff might have made their own t-shirts branded with symbols and colours of the original birthday run kits and sold them to members of public.
She further claims that the kingdom employee have a tendency of hiding Kingdom materials like t-shirts and tickets during Kingdom organized tournaments and functions and sell them on black market at the last minute of the the function when the demand is high.
“Let me tell you, at the football final match between my county Kaggwe and Buddu, I bought a ticket to enter at Shs50,000 even though it was supposed to be sold at Shs20,000. But I was had nothing to do apart from paying the money for my people to go and support our team and also look at their King,” Nambooze said.
He added that her people told her that they looked for the for the tickets for a long time before the game but they were told that they had sold them out. She alleges that they were surprised to be told that they are available on black market.
When Mayiga was appointed Buganda premier in 2013, he declared war on corruption and fraud and a number of employees at the Kingdom who lost their jobs were bitter with Mayiga as a person.
Nambooze is among those who are bitter with Mayiga because he stopped her from appearing on the Kingdom radio CBS even though they were close friends before his appointment.
In revenge, Nambooze accused Mayiga of being an operative of president Museveni and warned Baganda that Mayiga was being used to weaken Buganda and it is the reason why when they were kidnaped together with Busiro East legislator Medard Lubega Ssegona, he was not charged in courts of law but was released on police bond from Jinja road police on the orders of the former Inspector General of police Gen Edward Kale Kayihura who was Museveni’s henchman.
